BikeHike down?
« on: 23 March, 2015, 09:39:49 am »
The course creator page on bikehike isn't loading for me.  Is anyone else experiencing these issues?

I need to reduce the trackpoints on an organiser supplied gpx file, which I normally do on bikehike.  Can anyone suggest an alternative service where I could do this?

If I can dig out his email address I'll email the owner when I get in tonight - it is not a site he visits on a regular basis, so wouldn't necessarily be aware.

Thanks. I've been able to downsample tracks with gpsvisualizer, but I can't figure out how to use it to convert a track to a route (I tried the 'Force text data to be route points).  Am I missing something?

I hope that bikehike is back soon, messing about with unfamilar tools is costing me too much time.

You might find gpsbabel more useful (I haven't used it for this). It's linked in the notes at the top.

Or just run GPSBabel on your computer. Then you aren't relying on another website which may change or stop working at some point. http://www.gpsbabel.org/
Check the "filters" option, use "simplify" to reduce the number of points. And the transform filter, to convert tracks to routes etc.

Tyre to Travel.

Or buy a SatNav where you can download the gpx into a folder called 'GPX2ITN' and the unit converts it to a usable Itinerary file.

Thus:-

Converting a GPX file into an Itinerary

To convert a GPX file into an Itinerary, do the following:

1. Connect your Rider to your computer
2. Place your GPX files in the GPX2ITN folder on your device.
3. Disconnect your device from the computer.
4. Turn your device on.

Each file is then converted into an ITN file. You can convert up to 50 files in one batch.
5. When the conversion has finished you can load your Itinerary. In the Main menu, tap
Itinerary planning, then Options and Load Itinerary.

  Thanks, this looks like the best way.

When the internet fails, I fall back on Microsoft Autoroute 2011.

Its getting pretty old now and has no cycleroutes on it, but I can edit a GPX.

Hooray! Since Bike route toaster was 'upgraded', BikeHike's had no rivals as my favourite route plotter.

The front page loads but the course creator doesn't load any maps, for me at least, so still not working.

Was working for me this morning.

Its the OS map that makes it so good. Google maps doesn't distinguish between roads and tracks.
