Basecamp on Linux

Windows 8.1 on my laptop is starting to drag my ass. One of the main things I still keep it hanging around for is Basecamp, which I find useful.

To save me time messing around with it on my desktop, has anyone got a modern version of it working under wine?

Have you tried QLandKarte GT? It is kind of similar to Basecamp. http://www.qlandkarte.org/

There is also Viking - http://sourceforge.net/projects/viking/

I also played around with QLandKarte, like Viking I couldn't get my head around it. Or get either to produced anything that my GPS liked. It was easier to use online tools. But then again I have never got my head around waypoints, route and tracks.

I'm still running Mapsource under Windows 2000 in VMWare...

A virtual machine (I use Virtual Box but there are others) is an option.

I run Win2k under Virtual Box on my Linux desktop purely for some old bits of Windows software that I still use.

Yes, I thought about the VM route too, may be I'll look at that at some point. A quick play around with a wine install had Basecamp complaining about there being no dot net 4 installed.

QLandKarte GT and Viking both look interesting, but as is often the case with this sort of stuff, they are about as user friendly as a cornered rat!
