It felt like being in the Fens, but with Jordietm accents.

Which bit of the fecking fens? The bit of the fens with the bastard great big dirty hills that I don't know about?  ;D

I'm still withholding my entry until next year though. This will not be part of the PBP qualifying SR on the tandem, that is 100% for sure.  This will be just for fun!
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Did anybody remember that bloke who sprawled into the pizza joint from the kebab shop over the road? He was covered in (someone elses) blood and had a nasty looky gash on the side of his neck.  Yossarian had previosuly saw him fighting in th eother take-away, which is why he specifically chose our pizza place.  Next time I'm going to take Ride Hard with me.

There's now a website for this event:  www.pendle600audax.com. Website is primarily informative for those involved (ie - riding/organising), and is best viewed through chrome, opera or mobile.

Good stuff Andy!

It's a pencil mark in the diary currently. I'd love to give it another bash as it is a great event. See how the legs are as the season goes on and see how busy life gets with all the other stuff going on.

Right, cheap London-Leeds train fares booked and the Burnley Travelodge for Friday/Sunday night - getting a bit excited thinking about this one! My plan is to ride along the Calder Valley from Sowerby Bridge to Burnley on Friday afternoon for an easy sightseeing prologue.

I'd take the train and save yourself for the baddest ball-bustin' bollickin ride this side of Nagasaki

I have to admit I have serious fear about this one.
I'll be investing in a 32T cassette.

I'll be getting the geared bike out of the loft and dusting it off next month for this. Should probably revert the 36T inner front to 34T - will see how I get on with the Turf'n'Surf 400.

Just don't get on the train to Blackpool this time hey?

Still considering another ride around this fabulous event - the mega-project I am involved in currently is slipping somewhat (not my bit though!) and my time for cycling in summer is rapidly not looking there.

Just need to get qualified for PBP and then can start to enjoy myself with things like this and some of the other plans pre and post PBP.  One thing's for sure though, I, too, would have to dust off the geared bike if I'm going to ride this.

It was The Kids' fault.  He gave me a sip of his ginger beer and everything went hazy.

This ride is one of the best in the calendar in my opinion and it would be a shame to miss it, or for it to be ruined by gears for that matter.

I won't be sure which bike I'll be using for this one until I see the weather forecast a few days before. Certainly won't be riding fixed though.

If the weather looks OK, I'll travel light and ride my Roubaix with a 50/34 compact and an 11-28 cassette. I have a spare rear derailleur that can take a 32 sprocket, so might invest in an 11-32 cassette if I bottle it. Depends how the BCM and K&SW go.

If it's bad weather and I need to carry more stuff I'll ride my Dawes Audax, also with a 50/34 compact and an 11-32 cassette.

Both bikes have the same lighting system with Shimano DH-3N80 hub dynamo, B&M Luxos front light and B&M Seculite rear light plus LED battery back ups.

I have ridden many of the roads before so appreciate the enormous extent of the challenge to ride them all in one weekend. Should be fun!

You should be ashamed of yourself - blaming a poor defenseless child of all things!

No I really do hope to ride this again as it is a magnificent brute of a ride with a real journey feel to it.

Just to let those that have entered know that route-sheets will be sent out around the third week of May.

The A67 main road normally used between Darlington and Barnard Castle is apparently still blocked so I'm looking at diverting the route using the B6279 via Staindrop, replacing Barnard Castle control with a feed station control instead (probably Eggleston).

This won't require any increase in entry fees due to a surplus from this weekend's Heartbeat 400.

There's about 50 entries so far. The village hall/car-park at Pendleton isn't huge so I'll allow about another 10 before closing entries.

Any help/volunteers at Eggleston would be appreciated. All reasonable expenses paid.

You can get through the A67 closure at Carlbury on a bike.

Route-sheet now complete and will be sent out towards the end of this week. I've about 55 entries so far. I'll allow another 5 before closing entries.

Hi All

Not long to go so starting to think about prep for my first attempt at the Pendle 600. Looking forward to it. I'm looking for a reliable GPX file of the route. Having compared this one on ridewithgps website (http://ridewithgps.com/routes/6412980) it certainly seems to match the route issued. What's everyone thoughts? Does anyone have an alternative GPX that they will be using?
Thanks
Stu

There are 3 minor changes to the route this year, all between Langwathby and Pendleton. The integrity of the route doesn't change in any way, but the new route shaves about 3 km off (cutting it from 619 km to 616 km).

Is there a chippy at Robin Hoods Bay ?

If you Google it, I am sure there is.

However, the control chosen is, thankfully, at the close to the top of the VERY, VERY steep hill down into the bay itself - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@54.432729,-0.534109,3a,75y,126.71h,74.17t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1s_E25qUyGKTm1Y6ZXskEnUw!2e0!6m1!1e1

There are places you don't want to have to ride back up after lunch - the hill into Robin Hood's Bay is probably on that list!

Save your appetite for Hexham pizza and fighting!

More fighting.......I had that at the Statoil Servo in Charlottenberg, Mid Nowhere, Sweden two weekends ago.

I thought this was supposed to be a genteel pootle around The Dales.

I am not a big fan of café stops, but I quite liked that one (the nominated control).  After flogging up and down those N Yorks valleys 'across the grain' it was a sensible move to sit down and have a civilised break in the café.  Wolfing some take-away in the street can be good but not in this case IMO

It's a great little spot and perfect for contemplating whether you will survive another 400+km of that!  Luckily it isn't quite so stern for the trip westwards after the 20/25/20/30/25/20/30% pummeling you've just been dished up.  That section is some of the tougher riding I have ever done for sure.
