I gather that in the US its known as gravel road riding.  I bet Oaky knows all about it.

I might, just might, get away for a couple of days...but I'll be back for next Wednesday; I'll go along with whatever emerges, but if anyone's up for a 'More Miles, Less Beer' sort of evening so much the better.

Last Wednesday I was convinced we'd done more than 50 miles and was disappointed to find out I'd only done 48.  On Friday morning, on the way to the gym, Huggy said he'd like to pit his legs against multiple ascents of TMNH.  Earlyish yesterday morning I rode past The Cats but it wasn't open  :'(  I was wondering where we should go on Wednesday evening.

So I've come up with this ... CLICKY!

The highlights:

  57 miles
 2 ascents to Wichkam Bishops
 1 ascent of Market Hill, Maldon
  2 ascents of TMNH
 Multiple rendevous points for those not able to meet at the Spa Road roundabout
 Not far to push home should any machines top themselves
 A breather in The Cats

What do we think?

I was going to offer plotting a route to Clare (2nd attempt) or Belchamp St Paul for Weds but this looks good to me

not sure I can make it, I'm still mentally scared from last week  ;D

I'll probably join you on the road somewhere along the way depending on when I can get away. I plan to ride home and either drop off the pannier or pick up the soot bike (depending on how the legs feel) It's not a bad route for the commuter as we are bound to all hook up along the way again somewhere, unlike last week where I had no idea where I was for a fair portion of it (both geographically and physically)

Anyway, it' s all excuses and I reckon I might spend a good couple of days in August not really knowing where I am so must be good training!

I reckon we'll be at Snow's Corner, Wickham Bishops between 2000 to 2030hrs so you could meet us there?

Holy F**k. That's one of the best drawings routes I've seen from you. (adopts a Rolf Harris voice) Can you guess what it is yet??

Is the Garmin going to cope with that one??

That remains to be seen, if we end up in Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft (again) you'll have your answer.  Previous attempts at similar routes have had mixed outcomes.

If you managed to get to GY on a mid week nocturnal I would be mightily impressed. I'm sure my mum wouldn't mind giving you a cuppa and a piece of cake before the return leg.

Could work, if not are you thinking around 21:30 for the Cats?

If I get out Early i might just head for North Hill, I need some hill work in my legs with just one month to the BCM!

I'm not sure we'll be at The Cats by 2130hrs!  Sometime before Wally closes is my target.

I would be mightily disappointed if we weren't! Did I see that the 2nd ascent of TMNH turns off just before The Rodney? If so we avoid the steep bit for a second time

The verdict of The Current Mrs R ... "They are truly hideous!"  Which is true but misses the point.
