Partner is at Piggott's Farm watching the sky with others from the West of London Astronomical Society.

This was the home of Eric Gill, who led an 'interesting' life...

Now the place is sans Gill.

Eric Gill studied at the same college as I did.

Bugger!  Watching milky high cloud developing overhead.  I forgot about the Perseids last night when it was probably perfectly clear.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Looking very on and off for cloud cover this morning.
I hope I'll get a chance to see the partial eclipse later.

We have a pretty good chance of seeing it here. Should be 20% coverage.  Might dig out the Mylar filter and try a shot. Or not.

Fog and cloud here.

So probably won't see anything!

Hoorah. Just caught a glimpse.  It's actually better through a thin layer of cloud, as you can look directly at it.

Managed to see it via a pin hole in an envelope projected onto the back door.

Here's mine: Nikon D600 w. 300mm lens + Mylar filter:

There are a couple of small sunspots, one near 2 o'clock and another near the lunar shadow around 9 o'clock.

Divvery: I have a lovely sharp Tamron 70-300mm and instead I used the so-so 28-300 that was on the camera when I got it out. Still, it didn't do too badly.

Not so.
Unless I'm mistaken, on the first slo-mo take, you can see the surface of the moon behind the vapour trails.

This morning, on Southend Sea Front, there was enough thin cloud for me to be able to see the eclipse with the naked eye. I took the above picture with my phone. It would appear that there is an artefact of the sun, mirror-imaged, just to the right of the lamp post, rather below the main glow.
