I don't mind fireworks on Diwali, [the Saturday nearest to] November 5th and within the first 5 minutes of the new year.

Actually, I tell a lie.  I like the pretty ones at any time of year.  It's the stuff that goes BANG! that should be used in moderation.

I couldn't stand Divali when we lived in Blr. Fireworks pretty, noise bad, injuries inevitable but irrelevant, but what made it unbearable was the smoke and fumes (contributed to some of the injuries too, bang thud whallop).

Just spoken to Mum (81), who had returned from hospital with Dad (87).
His appointment was cancelled, they told him when he arrived.
Return home by taxi to receive newly-delivered appointment cancellation letter dated 17 October.

I know parents have just returned from forn parts but they has landline, mobile phones and email.
Mum is philosophical.

I am NOT IMPRESSED.

Gawd. We get them by post within 48 hours. Doc often has results for early morning blood samples on line the same day.

I imagine this is a grumble that's going to go on and on...

Builders.

I've needed this work doing for years. I've saved up the cash, everything's in place: architect drawings, structural engineer calculations, building regulations permission. All I need now is a builder.

Builder no. 1: very keen, loves working with old buildings, can start in the new year. All goes quiet then when prodded says he's got enough work for the next 12 months.
Builder no. 2: very keen, wants to start in 8 weeks. Can't give any guesses for time/cost as it's all done by this fantastic software and most of the details are already done. All goes quiet then oh dear, the software update lost all his workings and he's off on holibobs, really sorry, thanks for being so understanding. If he thinks I'm going to digest and approve his quote in the couple of weeks from when he gets it to me...
Builder no. 3: doesn't even bother to respond
Builder no. 4: we'll see

Contemplating a pleasant day in the workshop when missus announces that our daughter will be here this afternoon with a friend who will be bringing her toddler; so now we have to clean out the parrot, sweep & wash the kitchen floor, hoover the whole bloody place and then waste the afternoon on feckless platitudes until they see fit to bugger off again.  Added to which, daughter only thinks of us when she needs money. Joy abounds.

I shall ask permission to go and fix my puncture first. >:(

Stupid rain. A leak that started yesterday in my bedroom got steadily worse overnight, and by this morning most of the carpet was sodden and I've had to empty my wardrobe and move it away so it doesn't get worse. Half my clothes are also soaking. No Sunday club run for me, then, as I'm spending the morning mopping. The rain at least appears to have stopped now, so hopefully it'll stop coming in soon...

Thee & me both.  And after spending an hour messing about* trying to cancel Herself's AVG subscription that she took out before changing to Linux and losing the details, but which would have set us back 76€ in December, I'm thinking that a bloody good lunch is in the near future.

I lost my tourer's bicycle computer while on a ride today.  >:(

It's been a bit loose in its (new) mount, but when it has fallen off I usually notice quite quickly.  Today it probably went within the last 5km - didn't notice until I got home.  One-way streets and the wind made retracing a PITA.  The tail end of my route was narrow roads (so could have bounced under a parked car) and parks/shared paths covered in leaves.  TBH, I struggled to convince myself to turn back and try to find it - too much riding into the wind today pretty much destroyed me.

Thankfully I was also recording the ride on my eTrex30.  But guess I'm now in the market for a new computer.

That's a bugger Andrij

I did go out in the end today, 50km in a loop, the wind was either very helpful, a decent Dutch hill, or somewhat threatening when from the flanks.

My new grumble is that on making a quick stop at waitrose for tonight's dinner, my pocket sized combination lock seized on, wouldn't unlock, requiring a walk to Wilkinson's to buy a pair of snips so I could ride home.

David doesn't like noise or smoke. This weekend, we've had two ice-cream vans, barbecue smoke from the far end of the back garden, and countless detonations from the pyrophilic neighbours.

I live in a steep-sided valley (or on the side of it, anyway) and it seems every single house in the town is currently having an extension added. Be nice if they all take day off.

Oh, and the smoke from burning leaves doesn't, well, leave. But I kind of like that smell. Which is good, as next doors chimney is level with our living room.
