the pub was at "west burton ?" and was excellent ( could have stayed all night  ). perhaps a flatter route to York ( via Goole ? )
[/quote]

A completely different route may work - out to Skeggy & back to Lincoln before heading North perhaps.

Anyway I've just got my train ticket home, £17.10 York to Tamworth

There is a place left on a flat ride from Reading. One section has 20m climbing in 80km. Let us hope for low wind.

By the way has anyone else noticed that many more McDonalds are open 24 hours to sit down rather than just drive through now?

More options for long distance cyclists

Yes thats noticeable and welcome.  Our Arrows team last year heading south from near Edinburgh had a very welcome stop at Newton Aycliffe just north of Darlington, its a real morale booster to know that you can get indoors (even if its shared with boozy revellers).  Ive also noticed that even those McDs that arent 24 hours seem to open very early (5am).

My 400km event in May (9pm start) passes by a McDonalds just short of 180km quite deliberately.  I know its not everybodys cup of tea, but needs must on an audax.

FWIW, for those passing Leeming, the McD's is now 24hr on a weekend, and not far from it there is a Costa too (different services, but only ~1/2 mile up the road)

I think we probably have six Arrowists here in Essex. Either we divide into two teams or send someone off to another team...anybody in London/East Anglia/South East one rider short?

If all goes to plan I'm afraid that the CrinklyCakeMobile won't be in attendance this year, as we're hoping to be in forrin parts that weekend...
Yeah, I've chosen the right year to take a break!

Started to think about this a bit now.  Lakes Velo currently have 2 riders - any hands going up?  Probably meet up at Grange-o-Sands (trains), around the Fylde for a bit, cross the hills via Sedbergh/Hawes then up and down the flat bits between Yarm and Doncaster-ish.  450km-ish. weather permitting?

Les Randonneurs de Essex are at 5 now. Anymore and it's still not too late to form 2x teams of 3...forms are going off as soon as I've got the last ones in.

We are avoiding the Humber bridge...but are going via the Lincolnshire Alps* to partake of a new 24 hour garage [with  café] at silly o'clock

* Other than this it will be a Flatlander's route.

Last orders ladies and gents, last orders p-lease.  Lakes Velo starting from Grange-o-Sands has 3 machines.  Any additions before I do the entry?

The Reading train has it's full complement of 5. We are raring to go and are doing the KVR as a sort of team warm up. There is one member I have not met before, he is quite fast on strava and does about 300 miles a week, I hope he does not get bored.  ???

1 place remaining on the Mercian Meanderers team from South Normanton.

South Normanton, Derby, Lutterworth (Breakkie at Morrisons), Raunds, Bourne, Boston (Dinner at Spoons), Lincoln, (probably Goole for a flatter route) & York for just a smidge over 400k :)

Currently there's Me, Roy Clarke (Alfreton CTC), Dasmi & SR Steve.

Approx 14mph avg pace

This appears to have come to pass. Anyone in London (well, ish - I'd been planning to go up to Tomsk-land, so I can't *demand* a London Bridge start) got a space, so I can do the honourable thing?

route  stret...ching and  shrinking?
How? can you  miss intermediate  controls? or  do you  have  to  declare  a  linear route and  if  in extremis  only  ride  part  of  it and  end  up 40K short of the w'spoons. or  if  going well ride circles round  York

I tried to get a definitive answer on this last year.  I got as far as... ride your route and control in York then do an out and back to add distance on (or a triangle) and as long as you can demonstrate the 22nd hour rule it should be OK.  Not saying that's the official line though - perhaps someone will be along shortly?

Erm has anyone thought to tell The Punch Bowl that they might get a few cyclists turning up? Apparently, they had no warning last year,
It's a bit weird, but actually quite wonderful.

Yes that is  what  I  have  now.. 400k route (401 brevet  distance, 405  as  ridden) how  good  is  that!
360k is  at  Thorne  22hr control with 40K to ride, if really going badly that can be our  finish, 22hour  control is then Blyth services. I think suggesting the  +option of  riding  extra K's from York won't make me popular in my  team.

Anyone else  fancy a steady ride starting from Durham?

good point eck!

A random waitress said to me last year that it would be good if someone could give them a heads up if it was going to be the default finishing spot again this year.  I suspect the staffing churn at a York 'spoons is possibly such that there'll be few of the staff there who were there in previous years.

Missing intermediate controls will be a big fat fail.

You submit controls ABCD, you must visit ABCD. If you ride AB shit we're almost out of time lets skip C and just go to D you wont be validated. If you're going well you ride ABCD and head off to E for proof of passage. You dont HAVE to end in York to be OK, but your final planned control should be York. If your route is 400km and is ABCDYork and you ride ABCD and don't make York, you'll still be validated if D is 80% of the submitted distance and C is more than 25km and less than 2 hours from York and D is greater than 360km.

Rules are here: http://www.audax-club-parisien.com/EN/432.html

Hopefully most of the past esoteric validation arguments are behind us.

On an only vaguely related topic, the Summer Arrow to York (BR not BRM but otherwise the same) isn't in the AUK calendar yet. The York Rally is on that weekend again and looks like a particularly interesting destination this time. It would be nice for a team to arrive in York in the warm, rather than a death march, for a change. Is the Summer Arrow a 'no go' this year? Mr Hopper will be disappointed, if so.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Hi,

Brevet cards arrived today. But there was no indication of the accepted distance? I was over 400km so it will not be a problem for the points, but it would have been nice to know how close the distance to my carefully planned route.
