Rowan berries
« on: 18 August, 2010, 12:07:15 am »
We are making rowan berry jam tomorrow, assuming I manage to pick enough - we need about 2kg. Mrs Cudzo has found a recipe she wants to try. I have eaten rowan berries once before, covered in chocolate - AFAIR they have a sweet but tart taste a little like redcurrants but not so sour.

However, apparently they are inedible without being cooked first. Does anyone know anything about this?

They're vile without being cooked.
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

But only vile and not poisonous or stomach-upsetting?

That's ok, we're de-vileing!

They are picked, rinsed and draining, waiting to be jammed.
