Carbon walking pole
« on: 06 June, 2017, 11:38:25 am »
I have acquired a Field & Trek carbon fibre walking pole, mainly for use as a tarp pole.
However, it seems very stiff, and I have been unable to lock off the top section fully, or even move the lower.  Anyone any good ideas?  I am not very familiar with working with carbon fibre :-[

Usually a problem with the locking system, either the plastic wedges are too stiff on the treads,  there is gunk in the pole that is lubricating the interface between the wedge and the pole or the wedges are worn out. Dismantle, clean, lubricate or replace as appropriate.

Further investigation shows you are probably correct.  The wedge is, er, wedged in the top of the pole.  Thw second section unscrewsnjust fine, and I can extract the mechanism as far as the spring,  but haven't been able to gwt it further.

if it were aluminium, I'd use GT85 to free it off, but I have no idea if this makes sense with Carbon.
