New sleeping bag - Snugpak Chrysalis 3?
« on: 12 March, 2017, 01:02:45 pm »
I am look for a new sleeping bag.  It doesn't need to be winter weight as I have a 4 season bag already.  I'm looking at the Snugpak Chrysalis 3 - anyone got one?  I am 6' 2" and some of the reviews for the Chrysalis 3 say its a bit short.

Are there any alternative bags you folks would recommend?

Dunno about the Chrysalis, but I have a Snugpak Merlin 3 which is great.  The Merlin 3 is available in an "extra long" option.  Perhaps the Chrysalis is too?

ETA:  I don't think the Chrysalis is available as extra long.  The ones that come up on their site if you specify extra long are these:-

You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

What sort of temperature range do you use the merlin in?

Have toyed with the idea of a snugpak bag and I know some are british made. Care to say what's good about them/sell them to me?

I have a Crysalis which is a lightweight bag for the summer and a Softie 9 for each end of the season.   I would need something else or many layers of merino for winter camping.   I'd probably layer up.

My Snugpaks  claim to be British made and the Softue has an extender section to allow more robust chaps to zip up for a good kip.

I have an old Merlin 3 which is ok for warmer summer nights, but most of the time I use something warmer as I camp in Scotland as we don't get so many warmer nights. The Merlin3 packs to about the same size as my newer Rab Neutrino 400, which is ok to just a few degrees below zero, but I occasionally use both, with the merlin inside the Neutrino for added warmth. This way I don't have to choose between something too warm and something too cold.
