I'm in Barnie polishing off a cheese scone with cheese. I'll stomach the A67 next, then Sleightholme

Sadly, illness and mechanical failure has defeated me once again. Enjoy your evening!

In other news, anyone know of a source of inexpensive 7-speed screw-on freewheels? Preferably ones that only freewheel in *one* direction? Ta!!

My thoughts go out to fboab who has had a two visitations out there in the cold.

I didn't have a spare tube and my patches wouldn't stick.
Also- I wasn't actually having any fun.

I'm now at home. And will shortly be working, where at least I will feel like I have achieved something.

Commiserations - it is bad enough here at sea level, must be arctic on the moors.
Sunshine approaching from the South.

Buggeration.

Looks like it'll be me, G and (possibly) bunbury. Cosy!

Bunners made it! 4pm from Darlo in the dark and down the A66. Rewarded with steak pie and beer.

Mmmm. The fire is good. :)

I didn't go *all* the way down the A66.  I did stick to the A67 for most of it ...

I think we've learned a few things from the weekend.

1. It's actually quite hard to get to Tan Hill - we had the place to ourselves, and were outnumbered by the staff.

2. The reason why everybody thinks American Werewolf in London was set/filmed at Tan Hill.

3. The landlady is actually called Louise. Except when she's Tracy.

4. You didn't necessarily need studded tyres.

ETA 5. If you can't find it, Bunbury is probably sat on it.

...amongst other things. You really should have been there.

Probably why the place always seems to be For Sale/Recently bought/Struggling.

It's never struck me as a viable business. A place run at a loss by someone who can afford that - hell yes, but as a living - not so sure.

Anyway - as a cycling venue, it rocks! Stunning looking pictures Deano

The current owners have had it since 2005, though, and they're only selling cos they want to retire.

Selling it to gullible USAnians is always a viable business model.

Been following this thread, it looked like a great adventure. I had run out of holiday from work, so I do hope it happens next year. I shall plan accordingly.

Great pics.

I told them I was tempted to put in an offer - but I was fairly confident they wouldn't have accepted it :)

They have their own snow plough - what's not to like?

I like the idea - but reading about the Stag and Hen parties from this:

https://www.morningadvertiser.co.uk/Article/2017/08/03/Britain-s-highest-pub-is-for-sale-19-things-about-the-Tan-Hill-Inn

I changed my mind. I forgot you have to actually have Other People there. Fuck that.

Looks gorgeous!

But Flipping By 'eck, the surfaces didn't look too welcoming:
"My spiked tyres were giving me confidence on the descent of the Long Causeway, Dean had Fat-Bike tyres… but Greg had ridden out on somewhat narrower rubber with a slight tread. We had a distinct diversity to our choices of bike and tyre.
"
Did Greg have studs in those skinny tyres, or he did just descend with a lot more faith than the rest of the group??
Has never ridden RAAM
