The Cyos seem to be abnormally good in their lack of low-speed flicker...
Is that on a 26 or 700c wheel (rather than a little one?)

I've used them on 700c, and on small wheels with small-wheel dynamos.

It seems I have unfairly impugned the H One S V2:
I was prompted to retest it* and its seems to accept -ve DC (wrt 'ground-y' labeled input spade)... I wonder what sort of rectifier circuit would cause that--- its surely to powerful to use a half wave rectifier: perhaps a mosfet bridge followed by a diode before smoothing cap (but why -ve? upside down circuits give me a headache ).

Possibly a half-wave rectifier bootstrapping further circuitry?

Thanks.

 Ahh, do you mean a half wave rectifier which then powers the driver circuits for something like a mosfet rectifier?[/quote]

Or powering a light sensor, current regulator, or maybe even a microcontroller (soft power switch, standlight timer, that sort of thing?):  Full-wave rectification for driving the LED, but if you provide DC on the wrong leg it never gets going.

But why -ve DC I wonder?

Perhaps a corrosion thing?  I can't remember which way round that works...

Modern cars are negative earth so +ve earth must have been  the one that promoted corrosion:
so the H One would appear to wish to corrode my bicycle :(
