Thanks Martin for the bump, I've been a bit tardy in getting this ride listed on here.

Yes, named after the classic Teenage Fanclub debut, and the ride starts from St Peters Square in Hammersmith (one-time home of Island Records). No other religious significance, heathens and atheists more than welcome. The ride is aimed at novice audaxers and many of the entrants thus far are first-timers at this distance so good to have some old-hands on the road to guide them in our curious ways. I'm providing manned controls including a Village Hall at the halfway point in Houghton Conquest , and hopefully a surprise bonus for the weary traveller at Wheathampstead, the penultimate control.

It's a good route on quiet roads, not flat by any means with 1800m of climbing including a sting in the tail with an ascent of Harrow Hill at 190km. Obviously, any ride finishing in Hammersmith will mean some urban traffic in the last 15km. The closing miles take you through Wembley (good roti's here if you are hungry) and Harlesden and south through Old Oak and Acton to the finish on the river at The Old Ship.

To support the ride, and other events in the London area I created a website, take a look if you get a chance. It's aimed primarily at those new to audax and lends a lot of content from LianF's LWL site. If you want me to list your ride (only stipulation is it starts inside the M25) please get in touch.

That is a very nice looking website @blueskies. Just needs a backing track maybe?

Blimey, that is a great website. Sadly I'm not available for this ride but if you put it on again I'll be there!

I've never even heard of Teenage Fanclub btw;

Island records means Bob Marley and the Wailers Free and Roxy Music to me

(and My Boy Lollipop although I didn't know at the time)

I bet with a better name that reflects what it is about, in a couple of years this could easily become a 2-300 entrants event

The ride approaches YACF massive, who's going along?

Not really sure what the crack is with the catered controls, presume it is a cash bar versus grub laid on.

Tomorrow, I will be out doing a route sheet check of my new calendar 200.  I will be crossing this event route orthogonally in four places.  Distances at intersects suggest slim possibility of seeing some of you where the routes cross near St Albans.  If you see an audax looking rider taking a different route around there, don't follow them.

The section from Hexton back to St Albans covers some classic North Herts quiet roads; now frequented by the Jolly Wheelers with whom I cut my teeth a quarter of a century ago

really looking forward to this!

Thanks to  Pete and helpers. A great ride, in perfect weather. Getting back into London in the late afternoon required keeping one's wit about.

That was fun. seems to have rekindled my enthusiasm despite riding what at time seemed to be an inappropriate bike. Loved the countryside, great food at halfway and good finish location - I saw a few partners and families joining their partners.

Oh, and excellent weather, blue skies

Fantastic weather, amazing catering at the halfway control, good company and decent roads. What's not to like? OK, we did have to escape London on Saturday morning, but that was fine. The ride back into London was busy after Wembley but hey ho. I'm happy to have a bit of urban riding to avoid a 1 hour train trip to escape the smog.

Apologies to blueskies for my tardiness at getting to the finish. Checking the gpx tracklog I've discovered I was stationary for 2 hrs 37 minutes on my 240 km ride today, which compares to 2 hrs 51 minutes stationary when I rode the Irish Mail 400 a few weeks ago ;D Today was a relaxed ride!

Thanks to blueskies for the route organisation etc. and Mrs. blueskies for running the catering at the halfway control. Good luck with the 2019 addition!

A cracking ride thanks blueskies!

especially liked the lanes around the M25 on the way out; and those through North Herts on the return leg. Great riding through Woburn as well;

we kinda ignored the route sheet after Ricky on the way back; using rusty local knowledge and taking a longer but quieter route thru Harefield and Uxbridge

see you next year; a great start for a ride that is destined to get bigger and bigger!

Wish I'd done that myself to be honest, though it was fun playing 'premium rush' zipping past the cars.

Cracking brevet Blueskies and food to die for, looking forward to whatever's next!
