Round the Plain - 200km - 2 February 2019
« on: 21 January, 2019, 04:28:20 pm »
The email below sent to all riders who had entered by 6 pm yesterday - repeated in case it has got stuck in the spam folder of anyone here.
I've a gratifyingly large number of entrants for both this and the 100km so we need more volunteers at the start/finish Awbridge (Near Romsey) and at the lunch control at Burbage.

Reasonable travel expenses re-imbursed / entry fee refunded if you bring a friend /family member to help.   Over 18s only (Hummers is helping too!)

Dear Riders

Thank you for entering this event

There have been a number of late changes to the controls on this route.   One establishment decided at the last moment they didn’t want to participate, and another had a 4x4 drive through a wall rendering the building unsafe!

In order to comply with the AUK requirements for route & distance integrity, I’ve added an Info control (answer a simple question on the Brevet card) at the top of the South Downs (about 32km) so if you are heading downhill fast without the answer, you may regret it!

There will be plenty of food (included in the entry fee) provided at Awbridge before the start and again at the finish, and also at the mid-point stop at the village Hall in Burbage (96km).

There are also “free” controls at Whitchurch and Warminster.  Both locations are well provided for in terms of cafés, pubs, ATMs for you to get a receipt as proof of passage.

One point about Awbridge: There is quite a bit of parking – but this event, and especially the accompanying 200km event, are proving very popular, so if you are able to ride to the event, or share a vehicle, that will be much appreciated.

Updated routesheet and GPX track can now be downloaded from the AUK website event page http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/18-486/ (old website) and https://www.audax.uk/event-details?eventId=6944 (new website)

Please do remember to come equipped with good lights on your bike (and spares).   All except the very fastest riders will be finishing in the dark, along unlit country lanes.
