For a 100km ride: 1400m is 0 AAA, 1500m is 0.25 AAA, 1600m is 0.5 AAA

So 9840m = 21 AAA.

It's my local ride too

Yeah, me too.

Must get there this year. Only a few km to the start. Hell I might even cycle there [blimey that'll be a first], and turn it into a 108er and tip the climbing to over 10,000m :)

I'll be doing this one. I was damned hot last year but nonetheless very enjoyable. Recommended

What's this ride like then? Brutal or just challenging?

How easy is this to get to by train from London?

Easy.

Look at a map and then look for trains!

The 10am start on a Sunday makes it very easy.

Great Missenden is a couple of miles away and there are hourly trains from Marylebone. The 8.27 would get you in to Great Missenden at 9.09, which gives you plenty of time to bimble there and have a chat at the start.

Alternatively Chesham and Amersham are nearby and on the Metropolitan line (Amersham is also on the train line to Great Missenden).

It's 52km from Putney which looks perfect :)

Yeah, but when there are alternative stations additional info such as yours really helps.

If you are riding to the start I'm keen to join you - doubt if I'll be up to the ride back though!

Entry on the way...

I did nothing more than look at the map, TheTrainLine: train times, book tickets, reserve seats for mainland UK trains and the tube map.

Anyway, making it into a DIY 200 has a couple of negatives:

a) I lose the 13.5kph minimum speed (but it only goes up to 14.3kph).
b) I'd lose the 1 AAA point (I don't mind).
c) It means a 6.40am set-off and not much time at the start before everyone rides off

However, my goal is to ride some hillier events and I'm not worried about not getting the AAA point.

Chiltern Rail site reveals there are no planned engineering works on that date fro Marylebone / Missenden.

Return tickets available for £9.50.

However, my goal is to ride some hillier events and I'm not worried about not getting the AAA point.

I'm not going to even attempt to make it a DIY, but it might be good to ride to the start.

Is there a .gpx file extant for this one? If not I'll have a go at it some time next week.

Does anyone know if you can enter on the line?

You could always give Jim Swan a bell. His number is on the ride listing at the AUK website

I will, I didn't want to pester him unnecessarily if someone on here knew.

I don't think it would be a problem. He seems like an nice chap. After last years event he went round asking people what they thought of the route sheet, so he has courage too!

I have just (this minute) received my route sheet by return of post so there is plenty of time to enter

Yes, you can enter on the line, but it does cost a little more I believe.

I've done a (rough) two part track for this route - can anyone that is familiar with the route cast their eye over them for me?

...

See Dave's corrected tracks below.

My legs hurt just doing that on MemoryMap.  :)

I don't think it is far off but there are a couple of sections I am unsure of.

Only 2 comments:

on map 1 @ Loosely Row - carry straight on to main road (Lt Lane)

on map 2 @ Wheeler End, I'll go down Bullocks Farm Rd - shorter and misses out more of the A40, actually I don't know if your route is very much of a road at all, the usual alternative is down Chipps Hill.

It's not that hilly really!

Excellent Wellard, thanks for that. I wasn't too far off!

I'll correct accordingly.

Yes, I see a couple of what must be single track roads that are on OS maps but not Bikely.

Does the route get chopped and changed year to year? I was under the impression it went through Chesham [Chezum] last year? Not that I'm desperately yearning for White Hill first thing in the morning you understand  :hand:

See you folks Sunday, all being well.

Favourite topic for a local curmudgeon, alert!

Please double check the state of the tube out from Baker Street. It's pretty customary to remove all tube trains from the Met line at weekends and pretend to do maintenance. The main line from Marylebone is [should be] more reliable.

Bad phrasing by me - I meant to say (other) rides going between West Wycombe and Wheeler End use either Chipps Hill or BFR and not Piddington Lane

The route is very different from 06/07 and seems to have reverted back to the one used in 2000/2001 (I have a gap between 01 & 06!) and White Hill is a sod whatever time of day you do it (especially 550k into the Beast From The East)!

Look out for the (y)ACF shirts flocking to Ballinger!

Thanks for the route Pluck. Looks good. I've also signed up for the 'Tour of the Hills' on the 17th - 100k round the Surrey Hills. I must be mad...
