The 3 Coasts 600
« on: 05 July, 2012, 02:34:49 pm »
Just wanted to start a thread about this event.

Hope the first control (the start) is all ok following recent news reports about the weather.

Cheers, Doo :-\

Put my entry in the post today, looking at the Environment Agency maps, there are no warnings at the moments for Mytholroyd,  so hopefully it will be OK.

HK and I are planning to be there.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

I was in Mytholmroyd last week just after the big flood.  The community centre looked fine and I don't think Mytholmroyd had any flooding - it's a little higher up the valley.  It was Hebden Bridge and Todmorden that took the brunt.

Possible track gpx's now done. They look about right to me, and pass through all the controls, but use at your own risk  ;) And they'll probably need fettling to fit onto your device.

They're all of random lengths, depending on how long I had between having to do chores. 4 is the entire last loop (day 2), so the first 3 should be good for East&west coast riders as well I think.

I will be there God willing.

Looking forward to this as it will be my first 600 and by far the furthest I've ridden.  I still haven't sorted out my travel plans, so I suspect I'll be lazy and drive down.  My concern about that is driving back, but I'd like to start the ride as fresh as possible.  I put myself down for the overnight accommodation and food, not sure how well I'll sleep though.

I assume that's driving back on the Monday.   :o
Don't know how fast you are but I wouldn't have been up for driving anywhere after any of my 600s.  You say this is your first.   Do you want to be in charge of lethal machinery after little/no sleep in the previous 40-odd hours?  (I don't drive if I can possibly help it.  So the post may be alarmist.)

Actually I only read this thread as we will be on holiday just along the valley in flooded sunny Hebden Bridge, sans vélo.
Any fool can admire a mountain.  It takes real discernment to appreciate the fens.

My second 600 and I am coming from long and far away. I plan to sleep over on the Friday night and hope and pray I get some sleeps. Will sleep on return too and hope will be ok for drive back on Monday. I think caffeine may prove the way forward and stops at services should I feel the need.

Let's hope the weather is on our side!

Yep - was just going to wing it - and sleep as necessary.  No need to drive dangerously or while dozing.

Can you sleep at the community centre the night before?
If so, what time does it open?

The letter from the organiser says "For those wanting to arrive at the HQ on Friday night, the HQ will be open from approximately 8:30 pm when floor space for sleeping will be available."

Oops, spotted a mistake in the part 3 gpx I post upthread while converting it to a route  :-[

Nothing too serious, adds possibly 1km just before malton by going round 2 sides of a triangle rather than direct. I've replaced it with a corrected one.

Apologies to anyone who's downloaded it already

You should be ok: A(3) means accommodation for 3 nights.

I'm just working my way through the route sheet on bikeroutetoaster and it's taken me an hour to get to Malton, I've only done 204km...  I need a break, I'll be knackered before I even start the ride.
