Now heading away.  So will it be a Crazy Ivan back to increase the tally or will I have had more success at predictions than in my recent visit to Cheltenham ?

What is a Crazy Ivan? A special type of Gibbon?

What is a Crazy Ivan? A special type of Gibbon?

It is a reference to the film/book The Hunt for Red October, and refers to sudden changes in direction by soviet submarines, designed to reveal existence of close following tracking submarines.

Don't think we could keep up with Steve though  :)

Credit to the Swedish forum happymtb.org for first using the phrase in describing Steve's route.

D'oh!

I hadn't picked up the Red October reference.  I had assumed it was a reference to some navigational quirk attributed to our very own Ivan.  (I had visions of it being accidentally adding bonus kms by taking a wrong (sharp) turn just short of a control or similar).  NB other than my assumption based on references to Steve's Crazy Ivans, I have never had reason to believe that Ivan OTP has ever done that!
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

Correction sir, a 'Crazy Ivan' is these days a reference to the classic SciFi movie (and series) 'Serenity'.

The final Google mileage displayed on the daily progress map is usually lower than the official  figure that then appears on Steve's main website.

However today both show 182, is there anything different to account for this?

Steve, be careful of wasting too much effort on tackling hills when your daily task is already plenty tough.

Even stranger then, Strava has always been higher than Google.

I am wondering if two massive portions of Lasgne was too much - what with the pissing rain and headwind in the morning.

I should have offered him a salad.

And where did they get it, Alpha Centauri?  Naah, by reading an old Tom Clancy book they found in the ship's holographic library  :)
