Dros Fynyddoedd ac Anialwch Niwlog
« on: 02 May, 2016, 08:36:54 am »
Is anybody riding this?  Looks a bit lumpy for my legs, but I do need to book something to get back in the game...

I've never ridden a Blacksheep ride - is this a good introduction?

It's the first time the event has been run - so a bit difficult to say.

 I don't really know the area - the only time I've been out that way was for the Cambrian 2a and the Faffers 400 perms.

I wondered on paper how this compared to the BC, or other established rides?

May just enter & quickly order the new crankset (certainly need to ditch the 'pro-compact'!)

With the increased amount of climb compared to the (say) the Brevet Cymru,  it is going to be tougher than that ride. Some of the big v limbs on this ride are shallow drags, where as the big climbs on the BC4 are huge lumps - thinking of the climb at Felin Fach.  Sure it's a lumpy route, but there are sections where faster progress can be made. I think that a triple chain set will get plenty of use on all rings.

Is the Leominster control a village hall job or a 24hr garage?

Not knowing Welsh, I Google translated this title. Is this a Tolkien reference?

Ah...just looked at the gpx.  Its a pub in Leominster.  Hopefully they will be open by 10am ;)

Here is a link to the complete route if anybody wants a single gpx:

This route will be bastard hard.

Don't know, but I get the feeling it will be renamed 'Ffycin Rigby chi Bastard Sadistaidd'  by the riders.

I wondering if that Leominster control is in the Wetherspoons which would mean it would be open at 10am.

That bit is worse in the other direction.  I think it will be nant-y-moch that will hurt.  You've got the climb out of Rhayader, the Cymystwyth road...then that climb up to the arch above Devils bridge. Then all the way to the top before you drop down to Ponterwyd....then the horror starts.   You can't even go that fast on the descent because the surface is gravelly until the lower bit where it is broken in parts.   At least the road from Talybont (not on Usk) to Mach is benign and slightly downhill.

Any idea how many of us there are? I am seriously worried about hard this ride will be.

I am driving from London late of Friday afternoon if anyone wants a lift there.

Google Translate gives misty mountains et desert. Why 'et' I know not.

Misty mountains reminds me of The Hobbit

Far over the misty mountains cold
Through caverns deep and dungeons old
We must away at the break of day
To seek our long-forgotten gold.

Unfortunately that will just be the warm-up for the 70km that comes after Machynlleth.... and a good part of it in the dark for us mere mortals!

I think this deffn is about how it was pitched.

Through the mists and desserts.

Not sure whether I can enter this but yes if I was this section (most of which features prominently in Cambrian Classic 200 ) is IME by far and away the toughest of the whole 400km; once @ Llangunllo it`s OK

Beulah - Newbridge road is but small beer compared to the above section
