Ditto, a good thing. It is a bit disingenuous to compare roughstuffing with MTBs though. MTBers generally prefer not walking over stuff.

And it's not like rough-stuffing wasn't around long before the fellowship. What are RSF rides like these days - is there still a fair bit of pushing? I suppose cycle-assisted hiking perhaps had more appeal in the days before mass car ownership.

I haven't ridden with the RSF for a couple years, but it was mainly hardtail MTBs last time I did

Yesterday, bought some fantastic leather Brooks Ergon grips for my Brompton.  Great service from Daniel in SJSC who fitted them while I waited.

And today, A Brompton x Barbour Merton jacket in Bike Shed, Exeter.  If you want one, they have a very few left - medium only - and the sizing is on the small side.

Bought some of these.

That's everything now. Just waiting for the dining chairs, bedside tables and watch.

A stem (£8) and a bottom bracket (also £8) for the Poo Brown Bike.  The 300EX cranks turned up and they want a 110mm rather than a 119mm.  Sheldon Brown's BB database is bollix - it says 115mm for 300EX but 110mm is what you need for 46mm chainline at the outer ring, which is Shimano spec.

I've built it as a "road" 46mm fixie rather than "track" 42mm because it's never possible to get 42mm with cheap road cranks - you always need an unobtainably short BB or you have to put the ring on the inside of the spider, which makes people point and laugh.  Also, 46mm matches the chainline of my proper track bike, so I can try it with those wheels if necessary, and a Miche Primato single-sided track hub respaces beautifully to 46mm if the new owner wants to upgrade.

The bike is stunning.  Sprogs, of course, is just a "Lucky Bitch!".

A pair of Campag Record l/f track hubs (with original nuts!) and some Exal rims (which I have had very good experience with).  Just felt like building some blingy silver fixie wheels and the hubs were about half the going rate, so I can always sell them at a profit once I've polished them up.  Just hoping the bearing surfaces are OK, but neither hub looks as if it's been outside in the rain and the seller has a 14-day returns policy.

A Hiplock "cafe lock" that's like a steel cable tie coated with hard nylon - I got the combination version but they do a key one as well (at a lower cost) BUT there is only one key pattern ... seems to be a weakness with a single key.

It's not going to stop the guy with a battery angle-grinder but it's certainly stronger than the thin cable cafe locks.

Oh, and a Park Tool disc rotor tuning fork as they were on offer at the wholesaler

Some CaffeLatex tubelss sealant, and three SIS bidons, the latter to replace my existing ones which I must have had over 25 years  :o.  On checking, that's just about when SIS was founded.

Bought a Park Tools truing stand & a new spoke key to run down my Amazon UK gift token account before Brexit.

Wondered why the bill was larger than I expected: I had already added a DVD of Tales of Hoffmann to the basket & forgotten about it. Ah well.

A Bell Sixer helmet. Matt black and fluro yellow/green wouldn't have been my first choice of colour (although it should match my Oakley Jawbones quite well) but Merlin have my size at less than half price just now.

A new "12sp" chain whip, to replace the "9sd" one I've been using. And some gear inners.

And 4 each Shimano inner gear and brake cables from Bike24.  €3 each as opposed to £5.99 on Wiggle. Shipping to UK €7.

An EAI Superstar 18T track sprocket.  Unlike the black ones, these are actually available in the UK.  They are twice the price but OMG they are nice; mirror-polished stainless steel.  Compared to some of the indifferent cogs sold by other makers for similar money they are quite good value - EAI are still the quietest-running ones I've used (Dura-Ace are vocal, Surly are a lot better than DA but not as good as EAI).

It's from ebay. I think the seller left it unattended in that car park too long :D
