I know the routesheet just needs to say "go up every big hill in the North of England" - but any news on routesheet?  I got an Email to say it would be out around 1st May - but it's all quiet so far!

Emailed org who says next week for the routesheet
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

The force was too strong and I could resist no longer. Granny ring and new brake blocks at the ready  :o

I too have been lured in by the force!! Anyway, haven't been up the Hard Knott and Wrynose since the Fred Whitton, three or four years ago...
Time to give the legs and lungs a good 'ol bashing!!
Dinner-plate sprocket and new brakes blocks also at the ready  :o

I'm hoping the new bike with DISK brakes will get me down the steep descents without that 'I'm getting faster and I can't seem to slow' feeling.  Start down slow as hell, and stay at that speed!!  ;D
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

I practiced on Bignor Hill on Monday.  25% decents and rubbish tarmac.  The brakes work but it will be fun if it is wet  :hand:

Do we know how many entries there are for this at the moment? Myself, Jonah and Gadge are coming up from Hackney for this, and trying to persuade a few others to join us.

It looks like a difficult ride!

Hope it does not rain!

If the event is forecast to be wet, then I will consider DNS'ing as this would not (imho) be a safe route.  But I hope it doesn't come to that, and that the current high pressure stays over the UK (words like "drought" and "hosepipe ban" in the news would be alright by me!)

Looking forward to it though.  I suspect it will be the highlight of the year.

If anyone has GPX files for this year's ride (either 1 per stage or an overall one), I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one to appreciate it if they would share it, to save us all duplicating the same task.....

Started on files - don't blame me if they're not 100% though!  (I'll keep on adding the links as I do them)

It's all pretty simple - see steep hill, climb steep hill.

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559668 - Pendleton to Ripon

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559678 - Ripon to Robin Hood's Bay

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559707 - Robin Hood's Bay to Stokesley

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559718 - Stokesley to Barnard Castle - MIGHT BE WRONG SEE BELOW POST FROM DEANO!

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559724 - Barnard Castle to Hexham

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559729 - Hexham - Langwathby (sleep stop)

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559732 - Langwathby - Seascale

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559738 - Seascale - Carnforth

http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=559743 - Carnforth - Pendleton

I am also making a sheet with elevation profiles - they proved useful during the Wessex Series - so each stage will have a bit of this:

Slightly intimidating. (though always check the scale on the left - sometimes, you can worry about a stage and then find it's scale is 'only' up to 200m - still not a guarantee it will be easy though!)
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

Nah. That stage clearly has more down than up!

That between 50 and 60k looks fun in particular.

That's Greenhow Hill, isn't it? It's actually quite a tricky descent.

If Greenhow is the one that is close to Pateley Bridge then there is a bridge at the bottom of a descent where the surface is very shabby.  It was on the Dales Grimpeur and the org made specific mention to be mindful of it.

It's the descent into Pateley Bridge itself. Quite twisty, then straightens out as you approach the village, where you have to be cautious of drivers appearing from the side roads and pulling out.

Edit: I suspect you went up Greenhow Hill on the Dales Grimpeur.

Postie and I were talking about this one at the weekend and I think it will be in my sights next year.

Sadly, too much other stuff this year though.

Marcus, is that the official route?

Cos the A67 is currently closed for a section between Darlington and Barnard Castle. The official detour is pretty well-marked and easy to follow, and only a mile or two longer than bashing along the A-road, but it does suffer a bit from having A-road traffic going at A-road speeds on windy country lanes.

As far as I can make out it is.  I have A67->A66->B6280->A67

Worth feeding back to the org.

Just to say they're all done - but now I am concerned if Deano has found an issue with that section 4 one.  How many more errors have I made?

There's a rich harvest of 600s on the calendar this year.
Pendle is well worth putting in your diary for next year.

I am afraid to say it will not be running next year though http://aukweb.net/events/detail/13-312/#more - the org has another event in the pipeline I am led to believe.

We did - the bridge was on the descent from the other side.  Not checked the route yet, but if it comes in from Grassington then we'll be encountering the potholed bridge from the other direction.

I reckon you have it right.

Does anyone have a contact for the organiser, so I can let him know? It's easy enough to divert around (for the record, this shows the diversion), but the road is festooned with signs saying it's closed and that you only have access to Merrybent and High Connie, which some riders might worry about, and the road is closed even to pedestrian access, so you can't just sneak through.

If I'm around on the Saturday night, I might sit outside The Durham Ox and shout abuse cheer you all by.
