Looked at routesheet.  Good to see a hall mentioned at 400km - something to push for, even if it results in only a cat nap that pushes at the control closing times.

I see it's a BRM but stands at 619km.  I have no particular interest in BRM and although it should be achievable I would prefer to ease time pressures on what will be a difficult ride such that the 19km does not up the minimum speed to 15.5kph but instead gives the opportunity for extra rest.

What is the definitive position on such rides being recognised at BR time limits if the event is published as BRM? Is this just not possible now that it has been published as BRM, is it down to the organiser/AUK to exercise discretion post-event, or do I have to notify the organiser that I want to do it as a BR rather than a BRM and it is up to him whether to allow this?

On your bike, Mike - then you probably are, aren't you?

I'm sleepy...

Last weekend Brimstone 600
Previous K&SW 600
Prev Llanfair PG 400
Prev BCM 600
Prev 7 Across 400 + 2xDIY 200 pre/post
Prev Brevet Cymru ECE'd to 600

Prior to that maybe three 300s

Plus midweek of course.....

:)
I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 25 .....plus shipping and handling.

As I understood it, the ability to offer discretion post-event was not done any more - however, it was done so on the Hard-Boiled.

I feel the post-event discretion is not really in keeping with the whole audax ethos of saying "I am going to do X km in Y hours"

The only issue with you asking for it to be BR pre-ride is that the end control would, technically, have to be open for an hour and a bit longer.  Which is not really going to be high on the list of things the org wants I am sure!  You might be able to agree to control elsewhere for Arrivee though?

And you need to wear a big sign on your back saying you are riding to a different schedule to other riders!
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

The dual validation option has been removed by AGM vote, though I believe this was the wrong decision. Most of the old hands I've talked to about it weren't pushing for removal of the option.

It can be almost 2 hours, possibly longer.

619km at BRM = 40 hours
600km at BR means a 14.3kph speed limit can be used = 41h57m

If the shortest distance between controls is more than 600km you get even more time than 41h57m if you use 14.3kph.

Sorry, I can't give you maximum marks there.

You neglected to mention the maximum permitted over-distance for a BRM.

Have it on my desk by 3pm and I might overlook your negligence...

I found a nice resource for blogging about the ride, a pdf of information about the passes and high roads and a collection of postcards, linked to from here.

Yes, I found that some time ago and bookmarked it.  It's good to dip into and there are some good reminders of what road conditions used to be like!

Just to say they're all done - but now I am concerned if Deano has found an issue with that section 4 one.  How many more errors have I made?

I have reviewed these and can only find one error with respect to the route sheet. It's the section on Stage 3 from near Lealholm to Castleton. I've made a track that I think is correct at:

I've just had a quick look through Marcus' tracks. It looks like a classic.

And I've now made a financial commitment beyond entering, having booked camping.  :o

I was slightly upset to plot my route from my hotel, in Burnley, to the start.

12km - lovely little warm up before the main event.

290m of ascent though!

I will be the one at the start looking pretty knackered already!

Try going through Simonstone rather than Sabden.

Whereas I will stumble out of a tent then very lazily I will drive to the start.

I looked at the terrain map from burnley and rejected that option out of hand.

I will have a look at longer/flatter routes.  Can't really get too scared over 300m of ascent, I believe there will be a little more than that on the ride.

Looking forward to this lots now. It will be my first Hyper Randonneur as well!

I suppose it's a good opportunity to do one of the top 100 climbs, and one that Chris Boardman still holds the record for in a National Hill Climb.

Nick Of Pendle is not a particularly difficult climb if the weather is ok , especially if you are fresh.  I was surprised to find it got up it on the 42 ring yesterday while doing the Season Of Mists permanent (a ride almost too delightful to describe).  If the weather is against then ESL's suggestion , which entails going through Padiham, then Simonstone and Read is an easy option.  That's what I'd do anyway, faced with a 600 of this calibre.

Whatever you decide - good luck!

There's also the opportunity to pick up some breakfast and a coffee at the Co-Op food outlet on the A59, which is on the left behind Mac Donalds, and opens at 5am.

Further, marcus, if you are daft enough to start with Nick of Pendle, please be careful on the way down - it's a double arrow descent in one place with a tricky cattle grid on a bend, not the best wakener for sleepy heads!  Also, watch out for the turn to Pendleton on the left; if you reach the dual carriageway, you've missed it.
