Just analysing the profiles of each stage at the moment. Stage 4 looks like heaven, but stage 6 actually takes you there, and 8 and 9 into the depths of hell. Bring it on!

Don't underestimate stage 2 either.   1700m of climbing in those 90ish km & many of the climbs are very steep - the local authority must have got a discount bulk buying all those 30% gradient signs.

I never expected that. Pure murder that stage. I had nothing in my legs when we started back into the wind.

It strikes me as similar to a car rally. A number of testing special stages, separated by reasonably fast transit sections.
It pretty much covers every type of upland terrain in Northern England, crossing three National Parks and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It wouldn't take much of a diversion to take in the Northumberland National Park, including Hadrian's Wall. You could take in the Arnside-Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by riding through Yealand Conyers and Warton.

Stage 2 is just bonkers. There can not be many places on earth with such relentless, viciously steep climbing.  Good job it is nice and early and there still something in the legs! The only stage where I have ever been thankful to see a 20% sign as that meant a little bit of respite!
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

This pretty much sums that section up...

Gives with one hand and takes away with the other.

Fortunately in that case the steeper one was downhill.

In the pursuit of lightness for the climbs I've just printed my route sheet 2 pages/page and saved 3 sheets of A4!  ;D

But you could've utilized those extra 3 sheets of A4 as spares after your usual paper has been used up when removing your Pendleberries?

Don't worry, it looks like the rain will wash away the Pendleberries on Saturday.

Ah, for that I shall be using my redundant arm warmers from St1.

Redundant as the weather will be, of course, glorious ;)

I think I understand the signs better now,  "1 in 3" refers to the probably of experiencing pendleberries on that bit of  road.

I think I understand the signs better now,  "1 in 3" refers to the probably of experiencing pendleberries on that bit of  road.

And those signs in the distance indicate the types of vehicle required in case of over exertion; the bus to transport the victims who have packed and the lorry to remove the Pendleberries in case of an RTA.  NB the number on the side of the lorry denotes how many tonnes of Pendleberries can be safely removed.
