Not today, but earlier in the week I bought a Snugpak Stratosphere bivi - weighs 1.3kg as is but a lot less with lightweight pegs instead of steel girders supplied with, it's totally waterproof with 2 short flexipoles to give a "mini-tent" for the head area, thus in rain you could read in peace or even tend a stove outside the bivi instead of just furling the bag round your head.  Will be really useful for muni camping, stopping over at the office and at (near) airports, the latter in view of hand baggage restrictions and on taking tent pegs through security (!!)

This week I have bought some cheap gas canisters, a washing line, some saucepans and a Victorinox Waiter Swiss army knife, which has everything I need on it.

Total outlay about £27, of which the knife was more than half.

I went into Cotswold Outdoor this morning but didn't buy anything.  They're havin' a larf.

I bought a tube of seam sealant today to do my Jack Wolfskin tents with. Apparently they need it from new and I have only pitched them once in the front garden, dry weather.

The first item on my list. I've ordered a tent. A Blacks Octane 3 one.

So now just the sleeping bag, mat and stove to get. And then I'll be all set.

Oh yeah, and a bike to carry it all on  :D

Good choice, Pippa!
Now you'll need the Alpkit bag, Exped mat, Jetboil, Long Haul Trucker... ;)

I treated us to new 3mm foam underlay for the tent. The old stuff wasn't quite long enough and was falling apart anyway. Although it is bulky to carry it make the tent really cosy with no cold spots anywhere.

Yes, had to buy a new airbed (2nd one in last couple of months  :-[).

First one got a puncture, 2nd one was so thin I can feel all the ground.  So now we are on to the third.

A Coleman F1 Lite backpacking gas lantern.  £22 from Marshall Leisure rather than £36 at Go Outdoors.  Very small and light, has about the light output of a 60W mains lamp (lights up the garage no problem).  Not really supposed to be used inside a tent because of the CO and fire risk, but people do, not least for the warmth.

There's something marvellously steampunk about gas mantles  :)

I spotted an unused Army issue goretex bivvy bag on 't bay and snapped it up for 30 notes.  My present example is now 20 years old and showing it's age, although still working fine.  I'll most likely bivvy/tarp it at the camping weekend.

Not today but over the last fortnight:

Robens Cosy Dreamer tent.

Plenty good enough for what I need as an occasional camper.

Alpkit Wedge sleeping mat.

Impressed with the mat: I've got a bit of a dodgy back & its 5cm tickness at the torso gave enough support. It could do with a less slippy surface though - my sleeping bag slid around quite a bit each time I moved. Might be a bit bulky for bike camping though.

I acquired a stove from Ibrahim. No drunks to rob for meths on the mean streets of rural suffolk so it'll be the weekend before I get to Ray Mears it in the clearing.

I got a free tube of toothpaste from the dentist. It is ideal for camping being about 1/3rd the normal length.
It is simpler than it looks.

I realised my sleeping bag and airbed were a) huge, b) heavy, and c) extremely old.  I've just been to M*ll*ts where I bought smaller, lighter and phenomenally cheap replacements.  Feel free to sneer at me for dropping off the bottom of the quality spectrum - these items are barely one-season, let alone 2 or 4.

Toyed with the idea of buying a gas burner and some cooking weapons (pots, cutlery etc), but I remembered just in time - I can't cook.  Indoors or outdoors.

Sort of.  I bought The Mother Of All Teapots in gleaming stainless steel, for £2.49 from a charity shop.  I am on brew-up duty for the last FNRttS of the year.  I think it holds 2 litres.

A Vango Banshee 200 to replace an old Pheonix Plighter that has gone on to tent heaven.
