Hmm the sachet of Twinnings English Breakfast tea I liberated from a hotel was definitely Earl Grey.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

Luckily I can drink Earl Grey but wouldnt by choice. I don't think there is any actual Bergamot in Twinnings though just a an industrial created analogue.

That's because the original Eau de Cologne (1709) which has given its name to all perfumes since used bergamot as its main essential oil. It was hugely popular for over 100 years and you can still by it from the original firm Farina of Cologne (where else).
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.
