I think I've run out of 'points', with Chelmer 10 tonight and off on the G&Y Fields Fri/Sat.

How was it tonight? I didn't fancy the weather.

Was cold, wet and windy, but that doesn't excuse my slow time >:( Makes a change from Audaxing [in the cold, wet, wind etc and for much, much longer - but less painful!]

Huggy and I had a very pleasent evening and hardly got rained on at all.  We rode to Maldon and installed ourselves in The Friendly Fryer for fish, chips and for a me a glass or two of their very passable red ...

I always forget I don't really like fish and chips so should have ordered something else  ::-)

After a descent of The Mighty North Hill we got to The Cats.  I've no idea why but Wally was charm personified!  After Huggy expressed some concerns about Wally's Greene King Light IPA we were even offered a taste before we committed to buy!  Although I have been to The Cats a few times I didn't realise how big it was as there is another seating area behind the chimney breast.  If you ever want to take foreign visitors to a sterotypical English olde world pub you'd struggle to find a better example than The Cats in this area at least.

You didn't say anything about the Friendly Fryer. I would have come along just for that!

This was in fact said:

Just wasn't specified that we would be at the Friendly Fryer, although given the number of Fish&Chip shops in Maldon open on a wet Wednesday evening there wasn't much choice  ::-)

This Wednesday anyone??

Hmmm, possibly.  I've got a long day on Thursday so won't want to be back late.  What did people have in mind?

Yesterday we were very adjacent to this pub. (crap website alert).

I couldn't help noticing that they have a curry night on a Wednesday and one of their photographs shows 4 hand pumps: TT Landlord, Broadside, London Pride and GKIPA.

As a very occasional participant in the MEMWNS, may I tentatively suggest an outing.

My mother told me that my Great Aunt Rose used to own this pub, but that was probably in the 1930s. In the 1960s there was an Austin 7 on the flat-roofed section.

I think my legs may have sufficiently recovered for a shortish spin on Wednesday, hopefully my right knee will have too.
I do notice how Wow's refreshment suggestion puts TMNH directly in path from a Witham starting point  :-\

EDIT: However, given the weather forecast for Wed evening I may well decline on the basis that I haven't quite dried out from the G&YF thunder storm, and more hill climbing in wind & rain doesn't appeal at the moment!

Been out for 25 miles at touring pace today to Physio dept at S Walden hospital, in the rain, in full waterproofs, got too hot and removed the goretex trews. Probably need waterproofs for any riding in the foreseeable future! Well why not trek over to Stock for a pint & curry?

What you need Tomsk are Rainlegs!  I love 'em as they're much more comfortable than Goretex trousers and you don't get Betty Swollocks.  I noted with interest that they now do hi-viz Rainlegs.   Had I not bought two pairs already I'd be tempted.

Stock is too far for me tomorrow night as I need to be home by 10pm at the latest.  Have a good 'un

Got rainlegs for audaxing, but they don't work so great with civvies [when I don't mind riding slowly to try and avoid building up a head of steam!]

Been to see Doc today about my right knee pain and have been advised to rest it and go back in a month if I still have problems, surprise advice then!!  After  a few days rest my knee is fine again so if I don't use it on a bike then I don't get pain......therefore in my mind that means I need to use it to cause the pain to get the root problem sorted rather than just avoid the situation that produces the pain, i.e. >130km distances!
Really don't want my long distance riding to be ended before it's even begun  :'(

Anyway, I think it's prudent to not aggrevate the issue this Wednesday and see how it goes for next week so I'll have to dip out for tomorrow's ride  :(

If I do use the company medical insurance to get a specialist consultation to start the ball rolling with fixing what appears to be a medial collateral ligament problem I think I should do a 200k ride before the appointment  :demon:

Sorry to hear this matey.  If I go out tomorrow night it will be for a gentle and local spin with a brief stop for a pint of something reviving if you think that'll help.  Can't quite decide where to go.

My Stock suggestion was not intended necessarily for this week, what with its ghastly weather and so on, but more a general one for a future ride, possibly in the summer.

I'm going out tonight for a quick spin in the rain on Claud who I last rode on ice tyres in the snow.  I'm going to meet Huggy in Battesford Court which is Witham's Wetherspoons pub on Newland Street.  I'm looking forward to trying Claud's new tyres (Schwalbe Marathon Cross 26x1.75) and The 'spoons.  I've only ever been there whilst pi55ed so it'll be good to giving the place a proper looking at.  And I gather the beer is quite cheap.

Anyone fancy it?

Can't beat the Spoons for cheap beer!

Can't make it tonight. Got a hot date with Mrs Chris for her birthday.

If you don't get home from there until tomorrow I know you've had a good night!
