- brake bleed kit (or just more fluid)
I have a disc brake bike now and it needs some attention
Sorry if I go OT, I do not wish to derail your thread, but I'm just wondering what are, in your personal experience, the good and bad points of hydraulic discs on a road bike? My question is a real question, I definitely have no judgment at all!
My LBS answered this the other day: if you are going to fit disc brakes on a road bike then only fit hydraulics.
My LBS answered this the other day: if you are going to fit disc brakes on a road bike then only fit hydraulics. Mechanic disc brakes are NOT better than standard callipers for stopping a bike.
Basically you get much better power and modulation from hydraulic than mechanical, without any of the cabling issues. Mechanical doesn't generate the forces consistently required for heavy braking. And if you're not heavy braking then there's no point fitting discs to a road bike (where the wheels are always 700C, before someone mentions gravel frames and swapping wheelsets).
GP5000 TL are a lovely tyre but way too tight to the rim should they need removing on the road. i will stick with the Schwalbe Pro Ones.
Don't forget to ride your bike, people do!!!
Things I don't need to do:
Check my mechanical disc brakes because they just work, have worked for years without issue, and stop me having to worry about rim braking surfaces

Why worry about rim braking surfaces?
This is the main reason I'm shifting towards disc brakes.
Complete the qualifiers then complete registration.
- how do I mount the backup light?
the bike I'm using doesn't have a great way to mount a spare light. I have ordered some sugru

What? You DNS'ed after completing an SR, booking accommodation, booking ferries/trains, arranging leave/holiday? Suspect not just 'fitness loss' and 'not riding bike' in play for you four years ago.Don't forget to ride your bike, people do!!!
I did last time and lost enough fitness to decide to DNS the ride.

Front or rear?
I wouldn't mount a rear backup light - I'd take a compatible (identical) one but keep it securely packed away in my luggage. A mounted spare is vulnerable.
At the front I would mount the light, because its usefulness as an extra light outweighs everything else.

Ultrasun and P20 are both similar. They "react" with the skin in some way. They are good until the next time you shower with soap. I have used Ultrasun lots of times and it works
I prefer Ultrasun because it doesn't stain clothing as much. I think originally also Ultrasun did a SPF20 or 30 or 50 and P20 just did a 20 :) . I think P20 do other grades now
I liked P20 but I found Calypso after that - applies more like an alcohol hand gel than a liquid. Was available in Aldi for a while but haven't seen it there lately. On Amazon for ~£7 a bottle. It's the least sticky all day suncreen I've found and I think it's less staining than P20.

TODO now
* is that bottom bracket noise a problem? Do I need tools/spares
This year has been a disaster for me cycling. Whatever I touch, I break. ...What else can go wrong?

* is that bottom bracket noise a problem? Do I need tools/spares
Yes it is a problem in the sense that the noise is ANNOYING. Don't think it is a mechanical problem as such, probably just needs grease on the interface with the cups and frame.
Have ordered up various tools/spares to deal with this
Also got a litre of brake mineral oil for a bleed-o-thon
Number 3 bike is a 20 year old Galaxy :)

It's possible to overdo the prep.
