It could happen to any one:

Quote
A couple booked a dream holiday to Las Vegas, only to discover when they arrived at Birmingham Airport they had mistakenly booked to fly from Birmingham Alabama.

Richella Heekin saved for two years for a surprise £1,200 holiday for boyfriend Ben Marlow's 30th birthday last month.
But the excited couple arrived to find the airline's desk closed.
Staff confirmed the BHM airport code on their tickets meant Birmingham Alabama, not the UK's second city.
Read live updates from Birmingham, plus more stories
The airport code for the British Birmingham is BHX.

But the couple, from Sutton Coldfield and both carers for children with special needs, were devastated when they turned up to see no flights on the board.

However..

Quote
Since attracting media attention, the couple have been offered a free five-day holiday to Las Vegas by Virgin Holidays.

GN: The intense workload I've been under for the last few weeks, less over the last few days, is now pretty much over and I can skive off home early, whoop!

BN: But it's raining

GN: Not that much

BN: Enough to provoke a visitation

GN: But there's a station entrance I can shelter in

BN: I probably didn't want to hoik out the brake pad, this is going to take a little longer than planned

GN: At least I'm in shelter when the heavens opened

BN: I couldn't find my phone this morning, It didn't ring when I called it from the land line. I realised I must have dropped it when I went to the allotment last evening.
GN: It was safe & sound in the grass by where I'd left my bag while fiddling around on the allotment.

BN - The garage couldn't fully straighten out my bent rim so it'll need replacing.

GN - There's no damage to the rest of the car from whacking that rock, and they've fixed the wheel so I'm safe again.

The plan is to get a new wheel and tyre fitted next week when I get back from France and chuck the old wheel in the boot as a full size spare. Better than a can of foam :)

I really should pay attention.
When I read that I thought, "I didn't know he had a 'bent, and why was he asking a garage to fix it?"    :-[

BN: I've lost my excuse to buy another Garmin Forerunner to replace my ancient (well, 3 year old) FR110.
GN: I managed to fix the strap with trusty old superglue - seems pretty sturdy.
BN: Superglue fingers...

BN I'm eligible for the winter fuel allowance next winter.

BN: the posh bog roll holder kept falling to pieces. A very poor design where the grub screw kept coming undone. A triumph of style over substance.
GN: the very functional replacement cost £1.45.
GN: the screw holes for the old one almost exactly matched the new ones. No drilling needed. Job done in 2 minutes.

GN: I went for a bike ride.
GN: I, just, outpaced the rain on the way home.
BN: My overall speed, once multiple stops for both making my brakes stop squeaking and eating ice cream are taken into account, was barely more than walking pace.

BN I've done my shoulder/ neck in (over)doing Pilates exercises and can't lift my head upright, or do anything without pain really.
GN our sports massage chap can fit me in on Monday to try to sort it out.
BN I've had to cancel a dog grooming taster course I was due to go on on Monday. Yes, that's bad news in my book.
