Job seekers allowance
« on: 17 November, 2018, 04:45:14 pm »
My girlfriend is a carer on a zero hours contract.

She feels that she can't carry on with her job due to being put in awkward situations (family fueds that have nothing to do with her) she has been off work due to depression & needs to know if she just leaves the job (resigns) will she be entitled to job seekers allowance?

Whilst it used to be 6 weeks before you qualified if you had left the job yourself, I think its got a lot more complicated.  I suspect the best bet is the online checker somewhere at gov.uk .Their menu system ain't that brilliant, so just go there and search for Jobseekers allowance, and there's a tool to go through the hoops to check if she's eligible.  The gov.uk website is actually quite good to see if you qualify for all manner of things.

In theory, of course she could try for constructive dismissal, but I suspect that's an avenue she may not fancy, and it'll also take an age.

Try to keep away from actual jobcentres, they appear to be staffed by dementors...
