@CptBob,
Don't show those photos to Kim.  She's still getting nightmares about that model of tandem.  See here.

What were we thinking?

We'd have been on that ride had Polly not been recovering from a knee operation  (She's still recovering  she's recovering  :( it's taking so long) especially had we known there was another tandem just like ours.

We bought it as a first tandem, but it's done us well, we've been to the south of France three times on it.  Narrow tyres have helped a lot - and replacing bits like the steel handlebars with alloy have helped to reduce the weight.  It only weighs around 45 lbs, with pedals, but perhaps that's because it's small - the seat tubes are 15" and 12", we're both short.

With apologies to Crinkly Lion and her bridge thing, splendid though it is...for me a ferry trip should be incorporated into any bike ride, if at all possible... I'm so glad to have found this thread

Happily there are several within East Anglia, as well as to the wider world and Kent.

Earlier this year: Here's Sprog#2 and his Orbit Mercury, waiting for the approaching landing-craft style ferry from East Mersea to Brightlingsea. Later that day we met various forum-ers and watched the Halfords Tour Series criterium in Colchester.

Isle of Wight (Fishbourne) to Portsmouth, before leaving.
Forgive me Father, for I have sinned. It has been too many days since I have ridden through the night with a brevet card in my pocket...

1) Woolwich ferry - lots, including numerous 'Thames Path Meanders'.  I have no pics.

Will this do?
Most Enough of you is in shot to be recognisable. And besides, the Orbea's there - so it must be you.
I don't know who took this photo - it could've been TimO - for some reason I have it on my pooter.

I don't think that's one of mine, but without the original filename, or any EXIF data in your image (I'm guessing flickr removes it), I can't check (or say when it was taken, if it's one of mine).

(Admittedly this is a very delayed response, but I only just noticed the thread!)
Actually, it is rocket science.

you ring the bell and the little boat comes across and collects you for a whole €1

when am I going back?  :)

Taken on the 26th October edition of the FNRttC to Burnham-on-Crouch.

Here's the ferry we took afterwards:-

Good to see my bike and I have already made an appearance in the thread - ta, Pingu.

I don't seem to have one of my bike, but here's me and lantern rouge on the Hawkshead Ferry on a perm a couple of years ago:

And here's my bike on the Bandar Abbas to Sharjah ferry, across the Straits of Hormuz. No photos from outside, since the Iranian authorities take a dim view of photography of important installations such as ferry terminals and bridges.

On the Stena Hollandica from Hoek van Holland to Harwich.
You are in a maze of twisty flat droves, all alike.

I am currently on the same ferry but my trike is in the car and I didn't photograph it. It's somewhere just out of shot on the right though!

That's not a ferry, its a multi storey carpark. You're both cheating. Shame on you!

No ocean is to big for this ferry, the security is superb, I think the water & weather protection might be cause for concern though ;D
