After popping in briefing to huggy Towers

Were you helping out with some painting so he can come out to play tonight? Or just doing the rag and bone man part but on a bike not with a van?

So you should be ok for the Shark as it is local

If you are coming out tonight you can let us know which pub, if not then which pub ?

I don't mind driving down.  Who knows what I will be driving by then but it will probably have some room.

The pub is the Coach and Horses

My plan is to head of about midday on Friday get out there and have some chill time on Friday. I am staying Monday night and will head back at some point on Monday morning.

Not wanting to tread on Ted's toes in his capacity of chief reporter I thought it best to get something posted as there's no sign of him this morning  ::-)

A peloton of four formed at Spa myself, Andy C33, BFC and SSN aka Gavin real name Giles as I approached the roundabout a light was coming towards the roundabout in the other direction and suddenly a red faced and very sweaty OD appeared aboard Penelope which allowed us all to get our first glympse of her and what a fine machine she is  after some last minute powers of persuasion with OD (which didn't work) we set off to The Compasses.

A owl (Barn I think) made a lovely swooping manoeuvre out of the trees in front of us everything was fairly uneventful until we reached the mill at Cressing whereby a dozy woman in her car didn't realise she would need to reverse back into the passing place to allow the oncoming traffic through..... as I unclipped my left I suddenly had the feeling that I was leaning over to the right! Result was me going over however I did manage to stay on my feet and the bike hit the deck

Onward we ploughed until at the top of Highfield Lane I had a rear visitation after assistance from BFC, Andy and Giles (thanks chaps) I was back on the road again but heading along Priory Road there was another worry ticking coming from the front which was the second visitation this time on the front  :demon:

Having limped to the pub I borrowed a second tube from the Hustler and whilst they went in to see Sister Carol, Tomsk, Ted, Tippers and Jiber i remained outside to repair the second visitation. After a rousing applause as I made my entrance I tucked into a Wibblers Apprentice and a Brentwood Mild Bill both very enjoyable!

Talk was of fixies, the BCM and general audax events coming up with Jiber now firmly on the slippery slope as he edges ever nearer to participating in the BCM.

Ted will need to advise on the Quaffers choice!

Thank you to DL for his report.

The MEMWNS ride headed out to the other Compasses last night.  When I arrived Tippers, Tomsk, Sister Carol and Jiberjaber were already there, having all ridden solo.  Tippers had made his first outdoor foray on fixed wheel but, disappointingly, didn't seem to have any comedic moments to report.

The Witham peloton of the Hustler, DL, BFC and GavinSSN trundled in a fair bit later,  having slavishly followed one of their Garmin routes.  DL had suffered multiple visitations and was left in the beer garden to sort himself out. Fortunately he has his own floodlights. They reported that they had met local indoor cycling warrior OD at the roundabout astride Penelope.  OD, described by the peloton as a mess of sweat and bile, had come to taunt them from his Cath Kidston saddle before going home for his tea.  How the mighty fall.

We sampled Billericay Mild, Wily Ol Fox, Yakima Gold and Wibbler's apprentice.  Yakima Gold was the Quaffers' Choice.  Sadly not even Tomsk could be persuaded into the Wibbler's Wobbly Mouse at 12% :o

In an alarming turn of events, the deputy treasurer announced that the curry fund now stood at exactly nil.  Our compliance officer, Tippers, is undertaking an urgent audit of the Kiitty Kitty.

Much forward planning took place, stretching as far as LEL 2017.  DL is considering it as a new target for his audax debut.  We also had the Hustler uncharacteristically breaking cover in announcing his bid for RRTY.  However most of the planning was reserved for the BCM.  It looks like I will have Tomsk,Tippers, Sister Carol, Huggy, Bobb and Raymond for company.  In a late development, Tomsk may also have persuaded Jiber to join the fun.  We await Tomsk's mid-Essex BCM thread for more planning.

With 9 of us out and a nice pub it was another successful night all round.

OD will need to be informed of this turn of events it smacks of IAAF, FIFA and now even Tennisesq style corruption but I'm sure Tippers will no doubt undertake a full audit to establish what has taken place  :o

Apparently Tippers is quite the procedural guru.  He entertained Jiber with his detailed views on compliance procedures during a recent trip back from Dunmow

After popping in briefing to huggy Towers the trip to the tip went very well although I did have to wait in the drizzle whilst some bins were compacted and others changed.   5 miles!  All recorded on Strava - naturally.  I love utility cycling  ;D

^^^^^ Ted was seriously concerned about this photo as to what the tip guys must have thought when OD whipped out his camera and started an impromptu photoshoot at the tip! Particularly with that Cath Kidson seat cover

Jiber's link to the elephant bikes is a worthy cause.  I like practical solutions like that rather than just sticking money into a massive political organisation that was once a charity.

You could respray powder blue, it would really set off your saddle.  I suppose with the distances you now ride Penelope could be your only bike.

Had l known about Elephant Bikes prior to buying Penelope I would probably of got one, I think it's a great project and I have already sent bikes to Africa.  Penelope was something of an impulse eBay purchase whilst getting increasingly bored on Christmas Day. That said I don't regret buying Penelope and love her dearly.

Saddle aside, Penelope is quite cool.  I can't really think of an excuse to get one though.  Unless I got one for the girls for going up to the stables...

Follow OD's example trips for shopping or the local tip and you can then retire from MEMWNS to start spinning instead

They do look ace and it would be nice to spend the winter indoors with a load of sweaty people.  I could just pretend to be in Wales and do an extra long session in May.  I would need to move closer to a gym though.  Decisions, decisions.

I need to work out whether the 22" will still fit my two younger daughters giving me the excuse to have one.  I am tempted, by the bike anyway.

Put it forward as a condition of your membership that they must have a spinning bike...... and for the latter why not use a disguise, beard  ???
