I'm going for a Bike Ride
« on: 17 March, 2009, 01:54:50 pm »
I just had a phone call from Sara, our local Bikeability officer in the Civic Centre. She's invited me to join her and a load of other trainers accompanying 100 year 7s from Southend Boys' High School up to Belfairs Park, about 2 miles from the school, for a morning cuppa and a ride back to school. We meet at 8.15 at Southend United's ground, which is a few hundred yards from our house.

Should be a larf...

Well, we are up and ready, but it's a very foggy morning. I wonder whether they'll postpone the ride.

I might wander down and watch the carnage! Leaving from Fairfax side of the ground or Vic. Ave?

Easiest way to Prittlewell chase would be from Fairfax end, they'll only need to open the gates. Although I would have thought the police would be attending so stopping the other traffic at the lights, Fairfax and Vic. Ave, would be an option.

I got roped in!  ::-)

I was standing around, took a few pics, and I was seconded to Group C and told to keep the kids in check and to remind to keep a straight line and not wobble. A handful of punctures from the entire collection of riders at the start and at least one at the cafe. My group had a lock and gear change problem. The only other problem, which Woolly will know about, is that some of the kids had bikes bigger and heavier than themselves! But some of the kids had some pretty decent MTBs and BMXs. Their parents must love those more!  ;)

I also did a rather good impersonation of Regulator by blocking the junctions so we could get through as a group. Only one dicksplash took exception to me blocking his "green" light as I stopped him to let the last three go through.

A rather enjoyable 10k pootle which started in mist and ended in sunshine.  :thumbsup:
