Excellent evening involving Clare, Vern, Oaky, Huggy, Dez & yours truly. An assortment of beers and nuts. Now eating Maasdam and buttered biscuits.
For my part I made a dent in the Greene King Conkers Bonkers barrel - very good!
Enjoyed the company muchly  :)

Lovely.

Met Clare, Vern and Dez for the first time - really great to make new friends.  Also saw a number of old pals: huggy, wow, OD and TCMR.  A wonderful time was had and a number of bikey (and chessy and geeky) topics were discussed.

The Rodney had three very well-kept ales on:  Bonkers Conkers (which I'd been assuming for weeks was a Mighty Oak Brew but which was actually "Westgate Brewery" which is one of Greene King's borged brands, but tasted very good).  Eye Opener form the Stonehenge brewery and Slipway by the Newby Wyke brewery.

The landlord (I assume) was very amiable and despite not being an ale drinker himself was very keen to keep offering a changing selection.

I'd definitely recommend a revisit.  Even without the benefit of the excellent guest company we had tonight!

EDIT: I also cupped a pair of warm nuts belonging to Dez

Yes, sorry we had to duck out early thus missing the later arrivals. And apologies for arriving by car!

Good to see Clare and Vern again, perhaps we should kidnap them and keep them in Essex for a bit longer.  Happy travels you two and I hope the headwind dies down soon.

Gods, who put that headwind there??
Currently sat in The Cock in Hatfield Broad Oak having a late lunch, have done 25 miles (av. 8.8mph), not going to make MK tonight.

It was great to meet new people and reacquaint with those we had previously met, glad to offer Oaky a trackstand practise opportunity as our "taxi" driver was saying "I'm sure it's around here somewhere." He also said Oaky and Huggy were "fit nutters".

Good beer, excellent company and chauffeured to and from the pub, a most excellent evening.

Big, big thanks to Dez for the lift back up TMNH.

When I'm back with a proper keyboard I'm going to solve the footballer/brand new combine harvester conundrum which I started.

See you all next time we are trying to escape via Harwich!

Anyone fancy a daytime ride out of Witham on Thursday?  I'm leaving at about 8am and heading to HERE for lunch.  Tomsk and I were going to lunch there a week last Sunday but didn't.  I have a nice loopy 70 mile route via North Hill.  I need to leave early as I don't want to be late back - sorry.

PS - I'm making the most of these opportunities to ride out during the day as a return to the real world is on the cards  :'(

Sadly Wednesday is one of the days on which the unreal world of work impinges on my real world of Having A Nice Time so, sadly, I will decline your kind offer.

Sadly I can't do Thursday, OD, I'd like to revisit the Mole Trap sometime.

How about Wednesday evening this week, anybody?

I'll kick off a 'Christmas Do' thread tonight .

Wow, I'm talking about Thursday.

I tend to (ab)use this thread for all things mid-Essex as I know all the folks who might be interested loiter here.

In general, or specifically 'Mole Trap' related?

I'm probably around (although I have a chess match on Thursday night, so mrs_o might want to go out on Weds instead of Thurs for her exercise session so I'll need to check later on).

I stand corrected. I ought to read more carefully. Thanks, Bobb.

8 a.m. is a bit early for me.

AH and I are in the habit of Thursday rides and I have suggested a 10 a.m.start for us from Chelmsford, to meet you at the pub or perhaps en route. I reckon we can do it from Chelmsford in about 42 miles' round trip.

Watch this space.

The Mole Trap is a bit far for a MEMWNS, I think, although....
Perhaps one of our regular venues, but I'm open to suggestions.

If you're starting in Chelmsford, then I'd join you. I try to avoid Witham as much as possible, so a Chelmsford start would be good...

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?lnk=http://peter.chesspod.com/routes/ODepping.gpx is my suggestion for the ride from Chelmsford station. I can get there for just before 10 a.m. I plotted that before thinking about the possibility of an 11ses stop in Blackmore (don't worry, bobb - there's a new, much better tea room next to the pub now). That would take us via Writtle and Highwood.

In fact the Moletrap, at CM16 7PU, is rather nearer Chelmsford than Epping is so we would not need to go all the way into Epping if we didn't want to.

http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?lnk=http://peter.chesspod.com/routes/ODepping2.gpx is an alternative suggestion for a route. OD, what are your route plans?
