me Montane Featherlites turned up this morning.
Not much there for 30 quid. I have trouble getting my head around the idea that anything so thin and light can be waterproof. My first waterproof coat was a DR's rubberised mac; I could hardly stand up in it

Wore my new Featherlite trousers yesterday in unrelenting drizzle in Lincolnshire. Kept them on for three hours riding and another three walking about.
They didn't let any water in and they didn't make my legs sweat either. I was very pleased with them; you hardly know you are wearing them. The water was beading and running off my Altura Nightvision jacket but there was no water beading on the trousers at all except when I accidently peed into the wind. (They passed that test as well)
The Nightvision jacket has long zips beneath the arms and vents very well. I usually wear a technical T shirt under it in the summer and the same plus a (sleeveless in Spring and Autumn and sleeved in Winter) merino wool jumper. Merino wool jumpers can be found in the women's section of charity shops at about £3 a pop.
I find that a windcheater under the Nightvision is too hot.

I have had no problem with Altura (so far) they are just standard ones, problem I do have is with the pit zips on my jacket leaching water in.

Send it back to them; they've replaced mine twice for different faults.
They aren't cheap items so I expect them to do the job properly.

Wore these trousers in Cheshire yesterday for 20 miles of which 5 were drizzling. Again no signs of sweatiness inside and no leakage. Do you get the idea that I am impressed?

After the rubberised (?) interior started to break up on my old overtrews and reading this I shall order some Featherlight trews, commuting at night on my trike through the winter I don't need a damp and frozen set of meat and veg

I have teh featherlights and they are the biz - but don't wash them. ever.

I have these Montane Featherlites too and they are Cr@p! Water collects in the crotch and leaks straight through in a couple of minutes so you look like you've wet yerself when you take them off. The water beads on the rest of the trousers and runs down between your legs.

A Friday afternoon set of featherlites I think - got them from some shonky online company who didn't respond to my complaints  .

Mine have let me down this morning. 6 km walk in the persisting rain and my legs are soaked. I'll try retreating them.

I'm quite happy with my Altura Nightvisions.

The only thing which does irritate is the way you adjust the leg length by folding the legs up inside themselves and engaging press studs, which means you always catch your feet putting them on.  Bone dry though.

I'm thinking that I might try the Keela Multiactivity trousers but I've had a message on another forum saying how good the £50 Alturas are as a general purpose overtrouser. I'll check out the Alturas at the lbs and the Keelas at the Outdoor Show.

My Featherlites were only wet through on the thighs, not the lower legs, so I guess that the extra water running off the jacket overwhelmed them.

Altura nightvisions here. Worked for me yesterday on the way in. 20 odd miles of rain + traffic.  Perfectly dry. Haven't worn them since (or before) though.
