If we were to be considering another FNRttP in the coming weeks or months might I point out that there are several Good Beer Guide pubs in Chelmsford that I have yet to tick off. And then there's the Army & Navy flyover ...

Clear your diaries, Friday 24 March. It's been featured in FORWARD PLANNING for months so you've had plenty of warning. Once again we are raiding Colchester. Details to follow.

You should be okay. Last time (in 2013) we got back 3am on Saturday.

This sounds quite possible. I shall have to look at things like the Last Train Back to Shenfield.

Last train out of Colchester is the 11.03. Which pub do you have in mind, OD?

My hope is that we will tour the remaining unvisited 2013 Good Beer Guide pubs in Colchester: Bricklayers, British Grenadier, Live and Let Live and New Town Tavern followed by a curry, hopefully at the Victoria.

The forward planning Friday night ride enables me an ideal short trek after work to join up with you lot of fine ale appreciators. There will be no disaster if I miss my last train at 10.45 pm as I will be left with only 20k ride home.

I'm sure you can DIY that into a 200  ;D

I will aim to be out....brownie point dependant!

Nice one straggler and tippers.

Its worth pointing out that by pitching up a week on Friday you will be taking part in a historical and cultural event; you might want to mention this fact to any persons living with you whom might be suggesting you shouldn't come along.  The FNRttP pre-dates everything, even yacf, as the first FNRttP was 2007(ish, I will find out the exact date when I can check some photos on my laptop at home).

We have the chance to reinvigorate a tradition which has been sadly neglected, the last ride being in 2013  :o :'( .  Reading back through this thread brings back some happy memories  ;D

24th clashes with the penultimate game of the season for my volleyball team. Even without that, I'm not sure how logistics with a Colchester night out would have worked.

Sounds like a dormant tradition is being reinvigorated though, so hopefully I'll be able to make a future incarnation.

From what I have gathered working out how to get home is best done after the curry and several beers  ;D

I have been known to attempt both walking and cycling at that stage. Walking generally ends up with a phone call to Mrs Tippers and sending a location on a map as I have no idea where I am (or I have slept in a bus shelter opposite Colchester station previously) and riding my bike home....well we all know how that ends!

In the early Witham mob pub rides, long before the acronym generator had been fired up, I once rode home from the Compasses. Iirc I notched up 118 miles that day, having been riding all day with Auntie Helen. That wasn't a Friday though.

I have realised I am not going to make this. I have something else planed or Saturday which I don't want ballsed up by hangovers & late nights.

Right then chaps, we have A ROUTE which enables the Witham peloton to sweeps up tippers from his house and then takes us to all the pubs mentioned above before depositing the Witham crew back home via the legendary A12 cycle path.

Remember to bring decent locks as I am not sure what the bike parking will be like at each boozer.

So, we're all set for a cultural evening of bicycles, beer and curry following a great tradition established back in the mists of time

Ok, I should be able to get to Witham for the start...19:30 Spa Rd??

I have to be up early and gardening on Saturday...hmmmmm....I think I will either: miss/minimise the beers or bail early and miss the curry  :( not sure which yet. Either way, lots of miles

Yes 7:30 at Spa Rd should be fine.

I now have a busier Saturday than originally planned so will attempt to excercise restraint whilst keeping the tradition alive.
