Glenda Jackson (1936-2023)

Mostly a Good Sort. Probably better in here than in politics - I think she made more of a mark for her thespian activities.

I recall her being patronised massively by some moronic Tory in a 1960s or 1970s "Any Questions" programme and she really gave him what for.

Quote
Any ambitions she may have had for a lead role in government were banjaxed by her outspoken opposition to the Iraq war. Grandstanding opportunities were limited to occasions such as the death of Margaret Thatcher, when she cut through sentimental parliamentary etiquette with her own salty verdict on an ideology of “greed, selfishness, no care for the weaker, sharp elbows, sharp knees”.

He lost an eye in a pub brawl on Lea High Road when he was a teenager. Not that that means much to anyone other than those that care for him. Whatever his political shortcomings, it doesn’t surprise me that his mother chose to be close to him when it evidently suited them both.

ISTR that he lost the eye trying to break up a fight between other people ?  As a journalist he's a twunt though.

I'd happily machine gun the entire Tory party,  my parents read the Mail & Express & think Thatcher was wonderful.......     If I buy a house in the next year or so I'll be making sure there is room for them if they needed to move in.

Hmm... having a male member as your MP. Sums Johnson up.

As I recall she was, in her capacity as a junior Transport Minister, present at the opening of the big bike-themed Happening at the Design Museum back when dinosaurs walked the Earth.  Also invited was a certain Mike Burrows, who said he intended to give her a hard time for the Labour Party’s failure to mention either bicycles or socialism in its election literature.  Never did find out what the outcome of that encounter was, chiz.
