HIGNFY will go on, but who will be the chair?
For pitty's sake, not Sandi Toksvig, please!
edit: ::-)
For god's sake Basil!
Sorry folks, I meant ISIHAC. Title edited
-
Rob Brydon would be good...
-
I think it's going to be Fatbloke. That's why he's got a load of free tickets. And I heard him practising the trumpet last night. ::-)
-
At the risk of making ISIHAC a radio clone of QI, may I suggest Stephen Fry?
His public-school upbringing and impeccable comic timing make him an ideal candidate for Humph's shoes. And he'd have the same twinkle in his voice (?) when doing the smutty Lionel Blair jokes.
"and who can forget the look on his face when he bent over the desk to recieve 'An Officer And A Gentleman'?"
-
It should be allowed to rest in peace.
-
"Topic: Who's going to take over on ISIHAC?"
Post: "HIGNFY will go on, but who will be the chair?"
Mrs Trellis, do you have a view? ;D ;D
-
I wonder if Samantha might be asked to take over the mantle?
I would imagine that she would be able to handle the teams' members well and could pull off a fluid display.
-
Jaded.
The topic was originally wrong as well. ::-) I edited that, but left the original text to show what a plonker I am. ;D

I want Sven to come

You are not a plonker*.
* I and any other fule know this from the Sands of Doom.

But I reckon he's probably too old to step into Humph's shoes. ::-)

Double git. ;D ;D

What about Alexander Armstrong?
I was listening to a clip of ISIHAC the other day where Humph was telling how the record archivists were having a wine tasting and managed to get a good Semillion for Samantha. It's such a shame Humph has gone. Plus the dude worked with Radiohead. How cool was he?
-
I thought Clive Anderson would be good, only I then realised it would seem just like Whose Line is it Anyway. There was a great episode of of ISIHAC where Humph slated Whose Line for nicking all of Clue's ideas. Clive Anderson seems to have replaced Ned Sherrin on Loose Ends, so he can't replace all the deceased presenters...
-
I think that Sean Kelly would be most excellent in this role ;D

Not Henry Kelly?
"Who am I? I'm a faded TV presenter sued in 2004 for non-payment of income tax and national insurance during the 1980s eventually declaring myself bankrupt."
Or were you thinking of Roy "It's good but it's not right" Walker?
"Say what you see!" works for radio in a ISIHAC way.

On Today, Radio 4, this morning it was announced that..
"Comedians Stephen Fry, Jack Dee and Rob Brydon have been announced as new rotating chairman of the Radio 4 programme I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue."
Which is good news.
-
Jack Dee? Rob Brydon? No, no, no - they can't be serious?
No lesser a man than Stephen Fry is worthy of this role of national importance.

I suspect it's a time issue with having just one regular chairman and there'll be one chair after this series. Either that or they're just too scared to take over full time. Nothing wrong with JD and RB AFAICT. They'll do a good job. I'm happy, for now, that isishac is coming back. Time will tell if three chairs is the right thing to do. :-\
-
Charlotte - indeed. A revered national icon such as Mr. Fry, a man deserving a place with Quentin Crisp among the stately homos of England, is essential. Anyone of lesser stature demeans the position.
Unless - do you think Professor Donald Trefusis might be prevailed upon to take the job? ;)
-
They should have got Lionel Blair...
Stephen Fry can't judge the singing rounds as he's rubbish at that. Rob Brydon was fantastic at singing when he was on the show.
Stephen Fry also couldn't do the deliver the lines about Lionel Blair with enough innocence.
Jack Dee could do the dead pan double entrendres as required.
I think a revolving chairman was the best solution.
The recently repeated the very early series on BBC 7. Barry Cryer chaired some of the early episodes, that was very strange.
-

I should imagine that the Regius Professor of Philology would also be a fine choice of Chair :)
-
Julia Bradbury has got time on her hands. Likewise Russell Brand would stir things up a bit!
-
Norman Wisdom.
-
When I asked this on another thread
What about wisdom?
this is not what I meant. ::-)
Norman Wisdom.
-
Norman Wisdom; that's just common sense.
There's a nice story about a debate in the European Parliament, during which the French sentence «Nous avons besoin de la sagesse normande» was simultaneously-translated as "We need Norman Wisdom"... I can't find solid evidence for it on the internet, though in one online Hansard report from the Lords, one peer says it is true because he was there.
Rob Ainsley, UK
Damon.

I wouldn't think he'd try. I think it would be a mistake for any of them to try to impersonate Humph. They should bring their own flavour to the show.
Although, sadly, this could be the end of Samantha, Mrs. Trellis and Sven.

[Smug Mode...]
It's just as well they use wireless microphones these days; with rotating chairmen, the flex would just twist up.
Won't they get dizzy?

Doffs cap.
[heretical mode]
The sans Humph scenario has troubled me much less than the passing of Mr Rushton. Willie was (IMnotsoveryhumbleopinion) the consummate player. If ISIHAC can survive Willie's passing, it should certainly carry on now.

IT's BACK!
 ;D
Monday 15th June, 6:30 pm
Stephen Fry (of course) in the chair.
-
I will listen with trepidation. I did love Humph greatly.
-
Stephen Fry (of course) in the chair.
Nobody could replace Humph.
But The Show Must Go On and Stephen Fry's the only person who could possibly step into his shoes
-
Well, and Rob Brydon and...
Apparently, Barry Cryer wanted a woman to take over. Sam Leith in the Guardian today suggests Victoria Wood. That would be cool.
-
Well, Victoria Wood was on the show, which I thought was pretty good. It appears that, after Humph's passing, Barry Cryer will be the butt of the geriatric jokes.
-
It was strangely unsettling to hear Stephen Fry speaking a Humph-style script.
-
But I was delighted to hear of the return of Sven!
-
No. I'm with Ian. I thought it a mistake for Fry to try to keep to Humph's script. It came across a little stilted.
Hopefully he'll develop his own style as time goes by.
-

Thirded. :-\
-
Would be better to see a more individual style in my opinion too - Still a very enjoyable show as always though.
Just a tip however - Don't listen to the show whilst doing lactate threshold training on the turbo, as the resultant laughing will put you into the red fairly quick...
-
I was away from the wireless-receiving equipophone when this was broadcast to a waiting nation. So I bow down in awe and gratitude for iPlayer.
Loved it. Splendid Clement Freud reference. Hamish and Dougal making a welcome return. Very much a chock off the old blip.
It's what Humph would have wanted.
-
I thought Fry played it just right, as a starter. No doubt a "style" will evolve...but it's back and that'll do for now!
Victoria Wood was on top form!
-
Listened to it on BBC iplayer.
Fry needs a Fry script rather than a Humph script (that's been said, hasn't it?), but otherwise enjoyable.
-

Indeed.
:-\
Glad to hear it back though.

Last night's 'Yeah Yeah' was definitely the funniest Swanee Kazoo I've ever heard! ;D
-
Stephen Fry seemed to be less of a Humph-alike last night, and was developing his own style a bit more, I thought.
And I like the presence of Victoria Wood. It's always previously been a bit too much of a Boys' Club.
-
Listening to it now....I'm regretting it not listening to it for so long (15+ years) but glad it's still going strong. Loved the Slayer cover...and Barry's version of 'Don't Cha' was infinitely better than the original.
-

Indeed.
It's still the same script writer so I guess everyone is feeling their feet a bit.
This week's made me laugh out loud on several occaisions. I am with StuAff with the Pussycatdolls cover.

Series 52 was on last night.
-
Ah - thank you! Just firing up iplayer..
-
Just heard episode 2. Excellent. It appears that Jack Dee is now the incumbent presenter, as the end-credits said that he was doing next week as well.
-
Just played Ep1 (I think):
The Jim'll Fix It theme sung to Mad World (Gary Jules version). Truly sinister!
-
My word - Jack Dee's been in charge for NINE YEARS.
Anyway; this week's song:
John Lennon's Imagine sung to the tune of the The Muppets theme.

Was odd to say the least.
Also there is a place where all the old episodes are downloadable. Humph in wonderland still makes me laugh as well as a christmas carol.

Heard that on the electric wireless while becalmed on the A2 last night. I larrffed. A lot.
