Kite alternatives
« on: 29 April, 2008, 11:54:43 am »
I bought a kite many years ago, and it gets taken out about 4 times a year but without much success.

i think my youngest daughter now humours me when we take it in turns to fly the thing and it never really stays up for long. "better luck next time dad", "almost did it then"....the quotes are endless.

What are they alternatives for fairly cheap outdoor alternatives. Those little helicopters look to flimsy, is there anything sub £40 that will provide as much fun as a kite should...

Frisbee?

Or perhaps a more modern kite, which should be easier to fly?

This Flexfoil is a fiver oer your budget but easy enough to fly I'd guess

Those aerobie frisbees are good though. But you need a *very* open space. Unless climbing trees is a favourite hobby!!
Those wonderful norks are never far from my thoughts, oh yeah!

I have a HQ Symphony which I fly when I'm not flying this.
It's only 2 lines but cheap, fun and easy to fly.
If you can afford it, go for a 4 line kite. You can do a lot more with 4 lines, and they're safer...

Stone me Wheezer - that's quite some kite.

We seem to be curving back into kites - the foil ones do sound easier to control and need less wind to fly.

I've got the 2m version and it's a lot of fun, except the children don't get a look in!

Oh - as for alternatives, at kite festivals, if the wind dropped catastrophically so even the rollers came down, then you would see much juggling, frisbeeing, unicycling and stuff.

I have a HQ Symphony

+1 on the symphony. Packs small and flies in fairly low wind speed.
