Peculier Old 200
« on: 08 September, 2018, 04:21:18 pm »
I'm foregoing the delights of sitting in the White Bear all day (stamping Brevet Cards with an increasingly wanton abandon) and instead I'm riding this 2018 edition.

What is the alcohol limit for cycling?

Just enough to allow you to keep your balance.

Too much and you're going to fall over.

HTH...
VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

I know my limit but the problem is that I pass out before I reach it.

I think I'm baking again- should I make sure I produce something that soaks up the beer?

I think you just refuse to blow, try to remain upright...dance on the white line, don't try to walk it.
Don't die wondering...

I have to say, the report on Arrivee for this was awesome... really makes you want to ride it.
Sadly it's a bit too far for me for a day trip and I think I've run out of brownie points for overnight stays...  :P

Been DNS (twice!) for this event, so its third time lucky hopefully and entered.

Some very good rates at the Premier Inn by the start at the moment.

I was just in Masham last week arranging the pub control. The things I do for AUK...

FTR, three pints is the maximum anyone's had at Masham. Or possibly four - their memory was a little vague on that point.

I've placed an order for less wind than last year, but that'll probably guarantee you'll all get rained on.

If I didn't know the context (from being on the ride), I'd say that picture is a perfect representation of what happens if you have more than three pints at Masham.  (And you'd also be seriously lost.)

I'm swapping with you. I rode last year and I will be stamping cards in Masham this time.

I would definitely be riding if I weren't on the other side of the world this year, so I nominate Graeme should be my nominated representative and and as such should drink my three pints of Old P as well as his own.

No problem sir. PayPal 'friend' transfer would be the best way to send me your beer money. :-S

Again, I should point out that I'm fairly sure Gastone Nencini and Maîtres Jacques didn't come over to ride the original. But you never know... https://audaxdarleaux.wordpress.com/2016/07/12/peculier-old-200/

M'in - It'll be my first 200 for over a year so I'll probably be on Lanterne Rouge duties

As it was my first ever Audax in 2017, I guess I can try it again. Is it the same route as last year?
I am often asked, what does YOAV stand for? It stands for Yoav On A Velo

Aye, it's the same route (excepting any road closures).

I did think of changing to include more pit villages, or more hills,  but in the end I left it as it is. It's a good route.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. It's a really good route.
(From someone who was born in Darlo, grew up in Richmond and lives in Ripon so may be a little bit biased.)
I'm in.

Anybody going for a pint afterwards?

I’ll be there for a pint or two, having booked the Travelodge for afterwards.

Looking forward to this one, part of the route will bring back some LEL memories.

Right, entries now closed as I want to sort the admin out before the weekend.

See you all on Saturday.

I've chickened out as a result of the weather forecast - getting soft in my old age.  Good luck to everyone who is audacious enough for the ride.
