Garmin Etrex H

At work, there is an elderly Etrex H. Nobody has any idea how to properly operate it.

The H isn't quite the same as HK's Etrex Hcx and the H has a weird cable socket (and no cable or SD card). Where should I look to work out how to pull saved tracks off it?

The H uses a serial cable - you'll need an old PC or a serial to USB adaptor to talk to the unit, plus the proprietary cable. I used GPSBabel to transfer tracks to and from my old unit. You can borrow my cable and adaptor if I can find them.

The cables are getting a bit harder to find, still available but not exactly cheap. eg Maplin for £20: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/garmin-etrexemap-pc-interface-cable-te35q
Maybe a few quid less off Ebay.

Or you can find instructions for a DIY version, using a credit card or similar to make a connector. eg http://www.jens-seiler.de/etrex/datacable.html

For Windows, Garmin Mapsource will work for transferring tracks and waypoints.

What does the connector on the back look like? If it's circular with four pins in it, there's a chance I might have the right cable floating about somewhere.

Found the cable and adaptor.  LWaB, PM me your address and I'll send them to you if you still need them.
