Green waves, countdowns, rumble strips? All exist. Ok, perhaps the footrests are a new thing. More seriously than the newness or otherwise of these gizmos and props is that they are, well, gizmos. Nice things to provide when you already have over a third of your population cycling (the phrase "citizen cyclists" makes me want to puke), but hardly the stuff that will draw in the wavering.

That said, I think there are two important points made there with less fanfare: enable desire lines, and perception of safety is probably more important than actual safety.
