How to identify a specialzed hardrock as a 29er

Was wondering as a friend has one and it has had the wheels and seat post and saddle nicked and he doesn't know what was on there before.

Measure the chainstays and compare with geometry charts?

Count the teeth on the big ring,
42+ = 26
38- =. 29
Google the stickers and check colour schemes
