I've ridden a 600 straight through before but it makes me very slow on the second day.   These days I press on on the first day with minimal breaks which gives me time for a sleep.

Just curious if there are many/any riders likely to try and ride through the night without a sleep stop?

I aim to, I will be trying for under 24hrs, time will tell as to what will actually happen though.

I'm aiming to keep riding as long as possible, using the bivvy option for the flexibility of being able to stop when I need to - or keep going if I don't. Hoping to at least get past Lincoln on the return leg before needing to stop. We shall see.

I'm pretty used to allnighters but I'm racing in a team 24hr the week after so this is a luxurious double-hotel, 'just get around' 600k. The more sleep the better.

Hi all

Fenland's food notes

I have put Tom's notes on food and Googles further insights onto a one-pager with kms and notes for my own benefit but others may want to borrow this - particularity thinking of those who haven't experienced the dearth of food options in the Lincolnshire nights before! Biased towards a 32-36 hour ride but should be useful for others.

All care, no responsibility etc

Thanks! Should be perfect for me.

I'm in, planning a through-night ride until I turn into a pumpkin like usual about 2am then it'll be the odd 20 minute power nap when necessary.

Very much looking forward to the McDs in Boston 'with security on the door', at which I should arrive just in time for kicking-off time by my reckoning.

FYI: Some of you might be lucky enough to see the Red Arrows on Sunday morning as they fly from Farnborough to Newcastle.

Seeing the Red Arrows practising or taking off/landing at Scampton was always a treat when riding in Lincs. Now they're slated to leave Scampton for good it'll be a thing of the past :(

Number of omissions in Lincs gives the wrong impression

Firstly most medium and even some small places you pass through have Lincs Coop food stores open 7 days a week 7am to 10pm. So watch out for them, Crowland is a good example.

Spalding has a new large 24/7 garage with Greggs, Costa, Subway etc until about 9pm on the south side, plus Little London garage shop open 24/7 plus a McDs open 5am for breakfast until midnight.

Boston has a 24/7 garage with shop on John Adams Way as an alternative to McDs.

Lincoln has a 24/7 McDs by the University

Kirton Lindsey (as you pass) has one of those open till 10pm Coops plus a Spar shop.

Gainsborough has a 5am till midnight McDs in addition to the famous Bridge St garage.

Superb, thank you for sharing that.

I'm looking forward to when you start organising rides. You're showing much potential

gee thanks, Lincs is absolutely fine for getting food and drink. Slight over reliance on Coops and Mcds. Billingborough has a nice one mid route to Spalding btw. Just about to put the ACL event in the calendar for 2019 called “Don’t Forget Your Dividend Card” so no idea where the riders will control at of course

All noted and updated in doc with credit - some useful knowledge there, thanks.

Having for the last 6 months been trying to find out why I have drop foot, acquired two neurologists which culminated in a nerve biopsy 3 weeks ago and an unwanted diagnosis of vasculitis I took my eye off the ball that when I came to enter this event entered where closed.  Next edition of this rather wonderful event postponed to 2019 🙁😭 Such is life.

Anyone else overnighting in Sleaford Friday night? Will be wandering down from the travel lodge to the Jolly Scotsman for pre-ride carb loading. 😏

Sorry to hear that.  I hope your recovery is going well but I was rather counting on you cornering me in the pub at the finish and persuading me that I really do want to enter that French ride again  :-\
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

As the event's X-rated I'd be surprised if a spare brevet card can't be rustled up from somewhere. Have you dropped the very nice organiser chappy an email?

Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

I have been looking at the section over the M62, not happy with experience last time i rode there. But as this is to new for google maps not able to plan an alternative if one exists. Does any one have any alternatives.

Special late entry ...

Fingers crossed that light rain doesn't become much more.  My last lengthy audax, a 400 was the Lincolnshire Poacher back in June and it was flash floods and torrential rain, I hope this audax will afford some time for picture taking as when it rains the last thing I wanna do is stop!

I want to enter Boston ‘spoons in the dry (soaked and headwind battered on the Easter Arrow).
Bikes are for riding, not cleaning!

Fingers crossed that light rain doesn't become much more.

I've been in The Fens today (for "fun") and we've got what BBC weather categorizes as "light rain".

It's lashing down.
