Club Audax trophies

Do many traditional or new style Audax clubs have these? It was a reason I joined my current club and it's proved to be a real incentive to go out and ride all year.

Redhill have one.  They also have one for more general endurance events (which often goes to an audax style event).

Kingston Wheelers have an award for an ''Outstanding achievement on a bike'' which usually goes to a long distance rider these days. I will suggest they also give an audax points one as well!

There was talk in Sunderland Clarion about them, not sure what's happening with it.

The 2nd and 3rd place Exeter Wheelers audax trophies look like a tiny version of a Sadam Hussien monument

A bit off-thread D.A.L.E, but I'm currently trying to get an AUK trophy established for the Clarion section gaining the most club points, much the same as the one awarded by AUK to the top CTC branch.

Here's how the Clarion sections fared over the 2017 AUK season:

North Cheshire - 274 points
Calder - 152 points
Saddleworth - 130 points
Crewe - 53 points
Malmesbury - 49 points
Bury - 33 points
Sunderland - 27 points
West Lothian - 24 points
National Clarion - 10 points
London - 2 points

At Maidenhead we have what is called the Sportive Trophy for those that have ridden the most miles over the year on sportives and audaxes.

However the vast majority of rides ridden by the members in contention for it are audaxes.

I do not feel there is a need for another award, especially as it would currently look to be eligible to only 10 clubs. Additionally I do not see the need for a CTC award. Surely the club with the highest points gets the club award, whether they are a CTC section, Clarion section, traditional club or some form of online club etc.? In fact, now I think about it, I see little point of acknowledging a club altogether, just my opinion of course.

For the record I am a member of Crewe Clarion Wheelers. The club retains Clarion in the name but is not affiliated to the National Clarion. Club members decided overwhelmingly to remove the affiliation and allow members to join the National Clarion on an individual basis as opposed to being automatically enrolled in the Clarion when joining the club when the Clarion chairman IIRC tried to bring the socialist political element back to the forefront of the movement about 8 years ago

It's because of AUK's history of working closely with Audax Club Parisien and contributing results into their archives.  The French are much more club-oriented than Brits are and for a long time the very idea of an individual completing a randonnee without being attributable to a club just 'did not compute' as far as ACP were concerned.
For this reason and this reason only, AUK found themselves obliged to track the club affiliations of everyone who completed one or more of their events.  The club championships are just a by-product of that process.

(This is off-topic by the way as I think the original posts are about in-club trophies, not AUK ones.)

Does this create more work on the backs of volunteers than is necessary, do you think?

It used to be extra work (copying information such as club affiliations from the backs of brevet cards into written results sheets and thence again into the records) but that was when there was much less audax activity in total, so it was just about bearable.
These days it's no work at all, except in the case of non-members who ride BRM events and enter by post, then the org has a bit of extra typing to do.  Occasionally there can be some reconciliation of club names to do - for example if a non-member has entered using 'Wobbly CC' and another has entered (maybe a different event) using 'CC Wobbly' then a decision has to be made, which of these is correct and one or other record altered to match - but even this is mostly an automated process.

You might want to adjust those points to include just the top 6 riders of each Clarion section, to give groups smaller than North Cheshire a chance to compete.

North Cheshire - 187 points
Calder - 152 points
Saddleworth - 124 points
Crewe - 53 points
Malmesbury - 49 points
Bury - 33 points
Sunderland - 27 points
West Lothian - 24 points
National Clarion - 10 points
London - 2 points

Not that it makes any difference to the order.  But it might help those smaller sections to cope with not being able to win this award - oh no, my mistake, that would be the Self Lothian group.

Point taken Delph regarding counting just the 6 top riders of each Clarion section, which I should have noticed is the format used for determining the winners of the club points and CTC points competitions.

Southgate CC has a trophy for the rider with the most Audax points per season. Never been close to winning it!

I don't see why this can't be a thing? Not an AUK award, but a Clarion thing?

I agree with Tull3028730992 about it not being needed in AUK realms, but would be a great addition to the National Clarion awards.

It's up for discussion at November's National Clarion committee meeting and I've also put it forward for an airing at the AUK re-union, as a possible proposal at the next AGM.

I'll let folk know how things go.
