How do I edit a track in Mapsource?
« on: 31 May, 2008, 10:27:36 pm »
I have a track in Mapsource. I've deleted various extraneous "active logs". How do I adjust the starting point of the track - i.e cut off the first part of the ride? I am using GPSVisualiser to generate .kml files and I have saved it as a .gpx and opened it in Bikely. It needs tidied up.

(Edit: I see it is easy to do in Bikely.)

GPX files are plain text and can be edited fine in Notepad etc (vi in my case).
The only thing to watch for is that you don't damage the pairings of start/end tags, so delete from "<trkpt>" up to and including "</trkpt>". Check that the file opens OK in Firefox or IE, and don't delete the original copy of the file until you have checked.
You can also merge tracks by editing in a similar way.

Actually, I do this visually. Under "Extras" there is:
- draw track
- cut track
- join track
It works very intuitive.

I use this often to work with tracks rather than routes, when it is important to really stay on course (german audax) or if I cannot route because I want to use a dedicated bike path rather than a routable road or if I need a motorway bridge (which will not be routed in "bicycle mode") that has a bike path running alongside.

frankly frankie

Check under the 'View' menu, you have the 'Track Edit' toolbar enabled.
when you're dead you're done, so let the good times roll
