Do Garmin maps loaded on to a card work in other GPS units?

Or are they registered for a specific device? I refer to cards created by the owner rather than pre-loaded City Nav cards. Can I just use my card in someone else's GPS?

Not sure about City but using Metroguide I've written cards and sent them to other people, no problem.

Me and a mate tried swapping home-written City Nav cards. They didn't work in the wrong GPS.

In the end my card worked fine - this is with Metroguide V9 + Metrogold patch. Works in any device.

I had asked for a replacement HCx as the first one kept freezing - apparently this happens with about 1 in 100 devices. The new one has been fine.
