Last night I headed out to do a final practice session before the big race*.  However things didn't go to plan, within half a mile of setting out I had crashed and then was rained on.

The crash as I know that is the bit your all interested in happened as I slowed for traffic lights, I applied a bit too much negative acceleration to the pedals in the final approach, and neatly went over the top. I very almost landed it, ok, I was no where near landing it ok, I did get my feet down first, but then it was my knee and wrist and shoulder.

Fortunately the bike and I are basically ok, so we are still good to race, and we do learn from out mistakes right?

* ok technically it is also the first..

Glad you aren't injured too badly before the big day.

Half a mile and a crash is not really the preparation that I had in mind.

This is all seeming very serious all of a sudden.

Thanks, dp!

They say it's also going to be televised.  Anyone know which channel and when, as it sound like it would be worth recording?

first hi wheel race is 5.20pm i think. Thats the one mile sprint. The Forest Town/ Derbyshire champion- RT- was sharpening his pencil last pm, with a flying quarter mile in 44secs dead. Some interesting cornering

Is there a YACF supporters posse? Mrs Hall and I could well be turning up.  Meeting time and place?

A big good luck from up here to the YACFers taking part.
Look forward to seeing the photos after.

I'm planning on going, but I must say that I think anybody taking part in this is bonkers. I don't know whether the course is clockwise or anti-clockwise - so don't know if it's straight downhill then 90 degree left, or downhill with a left hand curve, right hand bend then 90 degree right. With no brakes. Possibly wet road as well.

What time are you thinking of going at, Tim / Zipperhhead? If the weather is reasonable I think I'll go at least for the later events.

I was toying with the idea of going to this, but standing around, and trying to make sure I get train/tube/tram back before they stop running, could be a bad idea, given I really mustn't strain anything for a while.

I hope you do well, given your extensive training, Charlotte and darkpoint. ;D

I await photographs with bated breath.

Tentative plan for us is to get there about 1900 ish.

I may wander up there if there's slim chance of rainfall.

..... I don't know whether the course is clockwise or anti-clockwise .....
Last couple of times I've been, it was clockwise.

Let's see what the weather does. The current pattern seems to be that it's acceptable up to mid afternoon then it starts pissingdown. I'll make a tentative plan to go at 1900.

We (Clare and I) are on a train down to that London, so we should be there to see most of it.

Yay for silly bicycle racing!

Charlotte's front wheel looks very shiny compared to the chap just behind her in a couple of those shots.

I hope the weather stays off later.  I just got caught in a brief heavy drizzle.  t was not enough to really soak anyone, but enough to make the roads just that little bit more slippery, which wouldn't help racing.
