Hi all,
Is anyone riding the Fairies Fairly Flat 150km on the 23rd June?
If so say hello to the 2 Frodsham Wheelers struggling their way around

Will be riding this for the second year running.
Weather looks a mite more manageable this time round, the sheer heat last time was incredibly exhausting.

Apologies for thread revival after several years, but I've entered the 150k on July 11 and will ECE it by 50k to make a 200k. That this is my first 200k since Adam was a lad isn't worrying me a jot. Yet ....🤔
For anyone thinking of entering, the Fairies as organisers have an excellent reputation and these five events, 50k,100k,150k, 200k and 300k, are legendary. From That London it's a train to Pluckley then a potter to the village hall for the start. Recommended.

Haven't done it for a few years, but the 300 used to be a lovely ride. Not sure of I can make it this year but will consult the diary mistress!

Loved the 300 when we did it a few years ago. I really need try to enter one of these. The 200 doesn't work with trains from London though, not sure about the 150.

In days gone by you could take the last train out of London and doze in the hall before the 300, but i can see why the org decided not to offer that this time.
I must say it was surprised at how easy it was to enter the event then bung on a 50k ECE, matter of minutes and one website for each. (Probably turn out to be a damned sight easier than riding the thing...)
Depending on where you live you might be able to do an ECE riding down from London and entering say, the 50k or the 100k? For instance, Hyde park corner is 80k says Google maps, so you could ride there, do the 50k then ride home for a 200k. (If you were insane enough to ride across that part of London, that is.)
But you get my drift - with such a wide range of distances in one event your options are very wide. In fact, if you lived 75k away you could ride an ECE there and back with the 300k and make it a 600k.

And yes when we did the 300 it was the last train from Hither Green to go under the radar for tandems on SE trains, and then an hour in the hall before the start.

Bethersden, a few miles W of Ashford (so best bet is to get the last train to Ashford).
I’ve done the 300 a few times and it’s a cracking ride. Not up to that distance at the moment though, but could be tempted by one of the shorter distances. Hmmm.

I'll be perfectly honest, I didn't even realise Pluckley had a station*. But that's perhaps partly because it's not actually in Pluckley - in fact, looking at Google Maps, it's almost closer to Bethersden than it is to Pluckley!
(*I've ridden along that road many times, and never noticed the station before!)

I've done several permutations of the Fairies 5 inc the 300 200 150 ECE and 100 ECE. all very trainable too. Are you sure Bob's not offering overnight zzzz? the hall is open anyway.

Well I did manage to enter the 100km and add a 100km ECE, so hopefully that's a 200 in the bag. It was difficult to drag myself out of bed at 0245!
Nice to ride a calendar ride with others, I was welcomed into a San Fairy Ann posse riding at a suitable speed for me. Also lovely to have tlc at start and finish and card stampers at controls. Thanks to all involved in organising this.

As the organiser, thanks to all 144 riders. It gives the whole team a kick to see smiling riders come into a control. To us it felt like a corner has been turned with traditional control hospitality and home made cakes after a long dark winter of car park controls and takeaway coffees. Now, if anyone left a helmet at the arrivee you know who to call

As a local I'd like to point out that the Fairies have consistently smothered themselves with glory running this event for very many years.

150 doesn't work with trains, however there is a nice little campsite outside Tenterden called Gate Lodge which was recommended to me by a YACF member.
The two times I've done the ride, I've stayed there.

Indeed. I miss being a local to this ride.
Next year I might have to make the trip down from Yorkshire.

Agreed on the organisation - this is always a very well run event.
I've done the 300 a few times and the 50 once (my son's first audax, when he was 9). Really should try some of the other distances but I keep gravitating back to the 300 because the drop down to Sandgate and the run along the coast to St Mary's Bay is always so utterly lovely at that time of the morning.
