There's a chiffchaff who inhabits the last small tree on the common before you get to the woods.  I've heard it every time I've walked into the station, but today it was obviously getting a bit more desparate as, instead of hopping half-concealed around the upper twigs, it  was singing its heart out in full view.

Slow worm in my good pal Penelope's garden yesterday. The temperature reached 18°C.

The sweep rolled up for his twice-yearly go at our chimneys: in spring to clean out the soot, in autumn in case any birds have moved in.

Still not many birds on our feeders and the light was rubbish, but we had some prospective lodgers round for a viewing
