2012 planning?
« on: 14 December, 2011, 01:52:46 am »
1/. Ride at least 300 days of the year. My normal short and easy rides are 12 or 13 miles so that would make a total of 3600 miles there alone.
2/. Ride to the York CTC Rally, camp there and maybe head on outwards after the rally finishes to do the Humber bridge, always wanted to do that on a bike or trike and maybe do Skegness as a Holiday town for a few days.
3/. Do some cycle camping in a new area to me, probanbly Scotland, Wales or Ireland.
4/. Lose at least 6 stones in weight by the end of 2012 by diet and exercise.
You touch my Coffee and I'll slap you so hard, even Google won't be able to find you!

1. A long weekend at the beginning of March
2. The Wessex rides and Wessex SR
3. The Scottish 1000
4. The Pyrennees
5. Enjoy riding my bike

This year is a little easier to plan than last year where I was not sure whether I would be up to riding PBP or not.

1. Continue RRtY
2. BCM 600 - I have heard so much about this ride, that I have to really
3. More tandemming - we didn't do much at all this year due to PBP etc
4. A tour through northern Spain should help with 3, this is our current plan for our summer trip
5. Fixed 200 - never ridden more than about 50km fixed, so that will be quite a challenge I think
6. The Scottish 1000
7. Don't buy any more bikes
8. A couple of other bits that it's too early to go public with
9. More nights under canvas in general (sort of cycling related!) - again a few touring weekends and a Spanish adventure will help. 2011 had rather less nights under canvas than I would have chosen.

Wow, lot to fit in. Better get on the turbo right away!

Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

For me, already planned:

1) A weeks holiday in Majorca, in May, with cycling
2) Mille Alba

In planning stages:
1) a re-run of WotR, on a day with more daylight
2) Re-starting the Thursday night social rides, and getting the York chapter running more regularly.

Plans are still 'fluid' but one definite is another crack at the South Downs Way in a day as it defeated me this year.

organising two events (200 and 300km)
running the Maastricht Control of the Dutch Capitals 1400
riding the Belgian Borders 1000
Riding either VOL or TransRussia (depending on when I have my holidays)
completing a RRTY (august-december allready done)
Finding a new job (will be made redundant mid-august).

I've got the rail tickets for the January hosteling weekend.

So far the only other decision that's been made is the Western Isles trip in June.

We've been talking about where to go at Easter.

I'd quite like to go to the York Rally - never done that.

Then there's July / August to think about.

Most importantly, I'd like Mrs. Wow to start getting her money's worth out of her new bike.

Have less time off the bike through injury.

Set 400 miles per month as a base target, and hope to exceed that by a fair bit.

1.   Launch myself into semi-retirement following redundancy in January
2.   Cycle more…..aim for 5000 miles
3.   Meet up with / cycle with the Essex & Suffolk yacf contingent
4.   4 week cycle trip planned is Maldon to Inverness (via Ardnamurchan) in May
5.   Use trailer tent for more luxurious camping  – Sandringham, Woodhall Spa, Windermere and Cambridge planned
6.   York Rally is another possibility,  especially combined with trip to Yorkshire Dales

1.  A succesful Mille Alba * 2

2.  400 miles in the Mersey Roads 24 (there, I've said it)

3.  The new 300 and 400 events in Scotland next year

4.  The Snow Roads

Thats about it.

1. Get barakta to a state where she can do ~100k rides ,with a view to assorted forum fun and a Brighton FNRttC.
2. That LEJOG I didn't do this year, time and budget permitting.
3. Some more of that Audax stuff.  I could probably manage a 300 without gratuitous acts of n+1, at least.  BCM600, less so.
4. All the usual forum rides, FNRttCs, Dun Run and so on.
5. Let's say 8000km
6. Try to avoid stupid injuries.  If I could go a year without wrecking a set of shifters, all the better.
7. Find an able-bodied stoker for the tandem shaped object and actually ride it a bit.  Or get rid of it to make room for a proper lightweight road bike.

I like fboab's plans - especially the Mr Smith bit.

1. Ride the Cape Argus in March - just enjoy & finish
2. Have the guts to waste money & fly back to the UK in May/June for a few weeks cycling.
3. Cycle Baden Powell Drive every day for a week - both ways
4. Cycle Ou Kaapse Weg & Chapman's Peak once each month.
5. Ride my pink Mercian through Khayelitsha.
6. Not buy any more steel bicycles - especially Mercians ;-(

Be happy & stay healthy.

Ride 10,000 km. Which means commuting lots.
Tour Poland for two weeks in April.
Get some audax rides done (they used to be a favourite type of ride but I haven't done any for two years.)
Wangle another tour week.

Fingers crossed.

More events with you lot
York - no longer CTC but sort of is rally (have I got that right?)
Some touring thinks, as now have the gear (with the exception of the trowel must get one)  -  Starting with week ends and working up to Wowbagger/Gordy marathons
Sustrans stuff ( I know I know but I am with one of the most active groups in the country and they do good things, in particular getting peeps out riding and signpost those tracks you all hate so much)
Some more adventurous audax runs -  have done my hundred need to look at 200
Mildenhall rally

Titanium audax frame I hope........

My plan for 2012 is simply 'ride the bike' - given how much of a kicking my plans for 2011 got as a result of the car accident I'm determined to make amends (and hopefully avoid being flattened by myopic old women in the process)

My main goal is the Mille Alba - it'll sorta-kinda compensate for the fact that I wasn't able to do PBP this year, but other than that, anything goes. I also plan to do some 'interesting' off-road once the Pugsley turns up in March ;)

- Have a Thursday free to ride with the Bristol Thursdays
- More mid-week solo rides as and when
- W/e rides with maybe CTC 3 out of 4 w/es
- More 100km Audaxes
- Working up to 200km rides
- More bridlepaths and byways
- More sleep
- Fewer Mars bars
- A drop-barred bike of some sort
- That means some vinyl etc on the kitchen floor
Riding a concrete path through the nebulous and chaotic future.

Er snap.

Other than the LEJoG that I never got round to last year:-

  • Tour around Northern Ireland
  • Getting properly up north, hopefully some island hopping and along the northern coast of Scotland
  • A 300 (possibly snow roads) and maybe even a 400
  • 5000 miles (which I was also supposed to be doing last year  :-[)
To do these I'll hopefully also achieve my other goal of losing 5 stone by the end of the year through cycling and actually getting my diet sorted.

Progressively.

To ride the bike more.
To finish the new 29er
To ride home from work regularly.
To meet Redshift somewhere in Manchester and ride home regularly.
Sunday training rides - Saturday when I can.
To cycle in France
To do the climb from Eymoutiers to Lac Vassiviere
To complete (the week before my significant birthday) a 500km tour from Normandy to Limoges
- and fly home in time to get to York for the last day of the Rally.

Ambitious? - certainly
Doable? - Abso-bloody-lutely!
