Tour of the Black Country

Was thinking a while back of doing one of the Flanders type Sportives but as usual I never quite got my arse into gear. However I have half an eye on the tour of the Black Country sportive in May.
Has anyone done it in the past?

I know the route and it is not all the pave you might think of and some sections are more compacted dirt with potholes (Prestwood Road section), or the 'sands of doom' which some will be familiar with on this site (Section 7).  Bit over Walton Hill is just sandy Bridleway and hard/soft track.  Uses some routes often used by MTB chaps.  GPS etc available here:

Run the route through Ride With GPS using satellite view and you'll get an idea of the type of terrain you'll be riding through.  Club runs tend to avoid a lot of those roads.

Event set-up by Jim Varnish (of speedway and masters track fame) who is Jess Varnish's Dad and who set-up V-Sprint Club.  Most locals know the routes and might use it for some CX or MTB training.

We never ride though Trescott Ford as it is very, very slimey and take the footbridge instead, which is often covered in slime (went across today and the ford was quite high!).

Also, a lot of other km just to link some paths/tracks to make 100km.

I have local knowledge.

Bide your time and do something like the Paris-Roubaix Cyclo which is available this year:

I did it in 2014 (max distance for all the pave) and there is no comparison.

Your choice!
